Maybe?

Good page here though, pics at bottom:

JAPANESE Machine Guns
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

From my next book...

"The IJN used three different RCMGs; the 7.7 mm Type 92 Flexible, which was a Lewis gun in the original British .303" calibre, the 7.7 mm Type 97 Fixed, a Vickers Class E derivative using the same ammunition, and the 7.92 mm Type 1 Flexible, which was a copy of the MG 15 in the usual 7.92x57. It should be explained that the Type numbers refer to the Japanese calendar; The Type 92 entered service in 1932, the Type 1 in 1941 and so on. All of these guns were licensed copies of the parent weapons."

While I was at the Oregon Military Museum I actualy took the magisine off a MG 15 ( a German made one) and placed it on the Japanese License built model, it fit perfectaly. In examing the above mentioned models I found the Japanese produced vershions well made.

I have intersting in this topic.

1st IJN MG is [Lu-shiki]MG. this mean [Lewis type]MG.
this is British made, & used by IJN Landing forces.(for ground)

2nd IJN MG is Type-92 MG. #on pic upper one
This is modefied model of [Lu-shiki].
It used same ammo.(.303 british 7.7mm)
but This MG has NO barrel jacket.
& used by IJN airplanes. #very popular

3rd@IJN MG is Type-1 MG. #on pic lower one
This is Japanese License built model of German MG-15.
It used 7.92mm ammo
& used by ONLY saiun [IJN carrier recon plane].
