Finnnish virtual pilots in the television - WW2 vets and online dweebs
Finnish virtual pilots association, Virtuaalilentäjät - Virtual Pilots Finland Association took recently part in the recording of OverDose games show, a programme by the Finnish tv channel MoonTV. MoonTV is a national channel and it received quite a large audience especially with the younger game playing generation.
The show itself was a 50:50 mix between interviewing real pilots, half about three World War II fighter pilots and a Finnair (Finnish air line company) passenger plane pilot, and the other half about Virtuaalilentäjät - Virtual Pilots ry association online combat pilots taking on another team with IL-2 Sturmovik simulator. Both sides had four pilots, four combats were fought.
The evening was very fun after everything finally started working. The mix of real pilots and virtual pilots was successful, even in the television screen afterwards. The veterans were old friends, if we dare to call them so, as we had met them in different situations earlier. Before and after their interview we chatted with them, about various things but unfortunately they decided to leave before we started fighting. The PCs just were not ready at the time yet, so I guess they didn't bother waiting who knows how long until we can start. But it was real honor to meet them again.
