Best defense against 262?
« on: October 03, 2002, 02:35:28 PM »
You are flying, a 262 bounces you, what do you do?

Been flying the 262 a bit, and the most common defense I noticed was....just doing nothing. By that, I mean the person goes into auto-climb, kills engine, drops flaps, and gets as slow as possible. Was in the DA was a squaddie, and he was the plane in auto (with no engine, flaps down, ect....) I was 262, and most of the time I was so fast, and he was so slow that I ended up ramming him.

When A 262 bounces you, what do you do. Next time I am boucned I am gonna try this :)

Heinkel, If bounced by a superior speed aircraft, I try to get slow and under his nose.  If you can spot him early enough, I wait for him to close, roll inverted and dive under him.  If he pushed stick forward while in such a high speed, he should: 1, red out, and 2, lose you under his nose.  Then I escape out opposite heading that he attacked from.  If he turns to try and engage, he loses his speed, and becomes a fat target.  If not, engagement is over and you live.

Thats what works for me if he attacks from my 6.  If it's head on, shoot well underneath him. H should lose sight of you long enough that you can manuver to where you want to be.

Hope that helps.

Just move a little bit, he can't keep up.  I've been killed by a 262 once in the MA ever.  I decided to keep all the bombs and stuff on my P-47, turned out to be a mistake.

Best attribute the 262 has is surprise. Spot him early enough, and anything will work.

Get yourself fast slightly diving, wait till he is at d600 on your 6, then overshoot him to death.

All it takes to stop a 262 is a hard break turn, it's the easiest plane in the game to avoid as long as you see him coming.  The trick of the 262 is to get your shot off before your target sees you coming,

Let him get really committed to the attack the break in any direction or roll out and dive. You will live and he might die if you have a high fast buddy (friendly plane) that is in the area and listening for perk plane calls. He most assuredly will die if he tries to turn to re-engage you without getting altitude.

I evaded 3 262's that were trying to BnZ me to death a couple of tours ago. I finally got one to commit to staying low with me and I downed him and his other two buddies died shortly after to P-51's that came in high and dove onto them. I was flying a Bf-109G2 when I got that 262 kill.

Ok, I think I was misunder stood a litte :) 262 isn't giving me any problems, never been killed by one. I was asking more....has anyone seen the tatic I mentioned? (engine off, drops flaps, try to "force" a collision?)

Collisions are quite common in 262s. But by far the best tactic is to lower your speed and then point your plane at him, most 262s have a hard time establishing whether a con is coming towards or going away from them, this usually gives you a HO shot, given the ballastic drop in the 262 guns AND the sensitivity of the 262 to hits it gives a you a small but effective window in which to nail them.

I know how to avoid most 262's. But what do you do if fester is on your 6 in a 262. Beside dieing very quickly.

You might also try HOing him if he's goin 400+ mph.  He won't have enough time to get off any accurate shots.  Remember, those are low velocity Mk-108 rounds.
