I actually got two total machine lockups yesterday, and they happened to another in my squad (X20) at exactly the same time yesterday.

The second one resulted in me having to restore my registry from a previous backup.

I had taken to killing every extraneous service, process, and system tray haunter before I connect a couple of months ago.(running Win2K). This has fixed CTDs, but the lockups I had yesterday were a new experience.

I can't play at all...

Most of my CTDs are measured in seconds.

Re-building and re-installing Windows on my puter.

Somedays I can log in and play for a few hours before a CTD....then there are days when I can't even make it to the hangar before I CTD.

I noticed that explosions seem to CTD me quite a bit....other than that, I haven't been able to isolate a common theme. This is on a fresh reformat and install of Win98SE.

I can count the CTD's I've had in the last year on one hand.

I hardly ever warp (that I know of) either.

If knowing my setup helps at all... let me know.

You're not alone. CTD's still a problem as well as screen freezes. Had a screen freeze on Saturday night when a B26 lost it's tail and went into the tail slide. I wasn't the one killing it and it seemed to spread outward from the buff as I saw the pilot who killed it complaining about the lag just before it got to me about 5k out.

Done the bug report thing more than once. Didn't hear a thing and quite frankly this area of the bbs gets most posters with the problem to bring it to light. Not that many seem to want to bother with the bug forum. Maybe with no acknowledgement from HTC they feel ignored until something happens. Just a word like, we're looking into it or for it would be nice.

Had 3 the other night...then none since....weird.  Once while i was taking off, another while strafing a runway....bomber appeared at end of the runway and I was at the desktop...last was when I was spinning out of control from my tail being shot off...two rotations and desktop.

I can't find any relation between em, makes it hard to dupe/track down

What SF said.
The film viewer records debug info which will help HTC figure out what is going on. If you can send film of CTDs and lockups to HTC they stand a much better chance of being able to fix it.

Are any of the people with CTD problems using onboard sound chips?

I got a new MB/CPU, and had worlds of problems with computer lockups.  Disbled the on-board audio, dropped in a SB Live! I had in a box, it's been rock steady ever since.

Just a thought.  I've since spoken to several people who've had problems with on-board sound chips causing instability with games.

Sadly, I do not record all of my flights....the night I had the lockups...I thought "hmm, what a fluke" and didnt bother filming.  By habbit, I do not.

If it's in the Bug Reports Forum, we're looking into it.  We'd never get any work done if we always had to post responses to all the questions we get.

Thanks for the response Superfly. However I have tried to use this "excuse" at work and have had my arse royally kicked for failing to communicate.

Perhaps a single response once a week acknowledging all the people that have filed bug reports the previous week would do the trick and make people feel like you "care" :)
