ok im sure this has been asked before but i wanna ask anyway :p

how do you get such good detail on the skins ....and how do you not make them look crappy when reduced to 256 color?

when ever i try to do details it comes out as big squares on the plane and is really annoying and so is reduceing to 256 and the colors get kinda ...flat

im useing Paint Shop Pro 7 MSpaint and Gimp

as a few people know my 110 is a victom of this :) well so is my B17

Dont use mspaint to conver to 256 colors.

With gimp, convert the image to indexed color, have it build a custom pallette, and make sure dithering isn't disabled, and save that.
