Propellorhead Quiz
« on: October 29, 2002, 05:46:56 PM »
Yes, it is time for the legendary Propellorhead Quiz again.
No prizes, but fame.

I will post this in several other flightsim boards, so put a tag behind your name (i.e. AcesHigh),
so that we will find out what community has the best planespotters. :)

Answers and winners will be displayed on the noticeboard next monday.

Yes, some did.:)

AcesHigh and Il-2 Ubi.com delivered some of the best answers so far, but Warbirds.de is just about to take the lead. WWIIonline, Air Attack UK club and some others still searching through their books.:)
Still no one who got all ten.

And please, put AcesHigh behind your name !
I received some very good answers, but without a community-tag, sometimes even without a name...

Warbirds.de IS in the lead now, with the first one who answered all 10 correct.

IL-2 is 2nd and AcesHigh 3rd due to numbers and quality.

Question No.1 :
Lidiya "Lilya" Vladimirovna Litvyak, white Lily.

12 personal victories and 3 shared, all with a  Yak-1. Killed at Stalingrad 1st August 1943, 22 years old.

No.2 :
Martin B26F Marauder

No.3 :
Hawker Typhoon MkIB

No.4 :
Dewoitine D.520

Captured french plane with german markings. Thought that would rule the first out, but nearly
no one got fooled.:)

No.5 :
Rolls-Royce Merlin

The engine isnŽt on fire btw, just normal ignition flames...

No.6 :
Focke-Wulf Ta 183 "Huckebein"

I thought this would be one of the toughest questions, but several got that right.
Indeed, this is a sovjet reproduction (ca 1947), based upon captured german blueprints and nearly completed prototypes, and led to the development of the Mig-15.
No propeller, but the design is from WorldWar II.:)

No.7 :
Mitsubishi Ki-51 Sonya

Tricky one. The Ki51 is a development of the Ki30, and the minimal differences between both
are not to spot on the photo, so i accept the Mitsubishi Ki30 Ann as a correct answer too.

No.8 :
Fiat G.55B Centauro

Ok, i admit, this was mean. :D
Took a pic of a very rare 2-seated trainer. But some did recognize it though.

No.9 :
Ilyushin IL4

No.10 :
Marmaduke Thomas St. John "Pat" Pattle, Gloster Gladiator, Hawker Hurricane

10 correct answers were delivered by (drumroll): Crushy (WW2ol, Warbirds.de) and Oyster (Warbirds.de) ! Grats !

Cause i think it was a really difficult quiz iŽll post the people with 9 correct answers too, well done !:

Babek (Warbirds.de), Beluga (Sturmovik.de), Jaguar (Warbirds.de), JJ (AirAttack UK Club), Xerxes (Warbirds.de (FH) ).

Think Warbirds.de won the race, nice!
