Cable/ Network Interface card

Woohooo! i'm getting Cable on Saturday!:D

The guy over the phone said i'll need a network interface card so i'm gonna go and buy one tomorrow.  Is there anything i should look out for when buying one?  and also where does it go?  do i bung it in a PCI slot or something?

You can find a network/ethernet card at walmart,bestbuy,or any other electronic computer peripheral carrying store.

The network card will require the use of a pci slot and you can find one for around $20.  Have fun with cable is fast but you will still experience lag once in a while :)  happy flying..

I assume it's NTL ?? or Telewest ?

If ya having NTL i not long ago got cable and opted for the 600 conx
Now the trial price of £34.99 a mth for Ntl's 1meg is here to stay :)

I upgraded from said 600 to 1meg and love it
Average now dl of 1.5  :D

Anyways on to the NIC, I have a cheap alliedtelesyn card and she works great ;)

Most cheaper/medium rated NIC's have Realtek guts in em anyways so most are great anyways
Get a 10/100 it will say on box etc
And yeah just slap her in a spare pci slot (sometimes, though i have a sharing nic/other card sharing a irq you can run into a irq conflict but switch cards around if this is ever the case ;) )

I assume you will have modem with usb/nic cable, Junk the usb cable (store away i mean  lol) and cable will run from entrypoint to modem then slap lead from modem to newly installed NIC

Away ya go :)

May have to sort a few odds n sods in networking setup in windose but apart from that and waiting for ya newly aquired ip to kick in ya good to go

PS.......... If it is NTL you're having you don't need to use install disc (as long as you new id/modem setup reg key is given to you correctly) so you can avoid having "their" speedup access/repair and general addon cwap from installation disc

Also get yaself zonealarm/or alike ;)
