HQ thing again
« on: November 01, 2002, 04:00:46 PM »
I would like to see the HQ's impact on the game revised a bit.

Having a healthy HQ should allow same abilities reguarding dar as we now have.

Degradation of HQ should be the same as we have now, with the exception that if the field you left from still has an operating radar set you should get dot information from this radar, but only on the cons picked up by that radar.  All other radars would be in effect dead to you.

The HQ is the supplier of strategic information.  Its loss should not deny us tactical information.

I don't like HQ supply system.
They can fix it with cargo supplies very quickly.
It lets my 2 hours buff flight go to waste.

Any jabo who would risk killing the barraks is a dolt.

Said jabo should instead hang around the HQ and rack up the easy goon kills. :D

problem with the hq thing is when #'s get imbalance, then one side smears the thinner #'d side. Whatever system is used should keep some game balance throughout the #'s fluctuations. Adding 'maintenance' tasks takes away from the actual fighting.

YOu should just get radar updats from the nearest field when the HQ is down.

So you'd get handed off by one field's operator to the next as you moved.

The HQ being down would simply deny a national situation picture.

The HQ, cites, towns and factories should not be resuplyable.  These things suppy bases, not the other way around.  A C-47 or two of materials that originated at a factory are not going to rebuild the factory after it has been flattened by 210,000lbs of bombs.

Having bases resupply strategic assets is a logical fallacy.

This is especially true on the larger (512x512) maps.

...and TG's.  Why does HQ effect a CV's radar set??

On a smaller map, you can almost find good fight without DAR, but on larger maps, when fields are roughly even, having no DAR is stupid.

I can fly around by myself offline.

Nothing will get goons in the air OTW to their HQ's quicker than loosing radar.

Instead, why not attack other strat targets that won't create the goon conga line. Hit the fuel and ammo strat targets and you'll possibly do more to affect the war than just blinding the other team.

OTOH, there are some who get great pleasure out of blinding the other side, the ability to quickly remedy this helps to maintain the fun factor of those affected, take that ability away and the arena numbers will skew even quicker and with worse results, IMO.
