OY!  Box,..it didn't occur to me you were using the onboard sound chip.  I should have realized it when the error you were getting came from the sound card driver.  Sorry for missing that one.

mrsid, I partly concur with your assessment.  However, most problems I have read about SB cards were when used in conjunction with AMD motherboards.  I really do not recall which chipset at this time, but the SB cards seem to do fine in Intel motherboards.
Of course, that is only true if you only load the sound driver and not all the other SB garbage utilites.

I myself, have never had a problem with a SB card.  But then again, I probably sweat the details a bit more than most would.

Intel based motherboards, with onboard sound chips, are a waste of money and power.  I have yet to find one that is stable and reliable, especially that piece of junk silicone from CMedia.

ya Skuzzy i was stupid enough to think it might work. It is a SOUND MAX onboard sound, it looked like it was a nice set up. But like i said i never have had luck using any onboard sound, and let me restate that i Have not ever had any Nforce onboard sound MOBOs but have only heard good things about them!

But like i said its a screamer now!

:D

Skuzzy I might be a bit partial against creative since I totally lost my nerves with my SB Live!

I upgraded to W2k and couldn't get it working. Creative had no drivers available online and their online support promised to send me a driverpack (Didn't want to order a cd and wait a week for it to ship overseas.) They never kept that promise though. I was dumbfounded by the announcement on the website that they cancelled the online support for device drivers.

I had perfectly working AC97 onboard sound in my old mobo so I gave the Live! away to a friend and decided never to buy creative again.

I've never missed the products.. horrible drivers, mediocre product and high price. I got the same even with software AC97 - and besides it's only for games. I listen to music with hi-fi gear not pc :)

So, what happened to the :blame on AOL wagon"? Everyone who jumped on trashing AOL, are you still on the wagon? :)

I'm still amazed of how crowds comply with the common ignorance orders.
