Vital New Role for UN SC!
« on: April 09, 2003, 01:16:30 PM »
While the Coalition countries are busy in Iraq, there is a VITAL NEW ROLE for the other UN SC countries, particularly France, Russia, Germany and China.

This matter needs to be dealt with post-haste and with the skillful diplomacy that these countries endorse and practice.

Quote
United Nations -- The Security Council began working on a new nuclear weapons issue February 19, 2003 -- North Korea's nuclear program, as referred to it by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

As you can see, the UN's own IAEA referred the problem of NK's withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to the Security Council.

Time is of the essence here and months have gone by!

The US, in order to defuse the situation somewhat and allay the fears of the NK's will agree to withdraw all troops from the Korean peninsula immediately. This should help the SC members calm NK fears of US agression.

Additionally, we'll continue to fulfill any agreements previously made to send aid to NK. However, we will not agree to send anything else until the problem has been resolved.

Please have them get on the job right away!

Thanks!

Yea...they are in a big hurry...to DISCUSS the issue.

Next they will appoint a committee (and pay them a few million) to discuss the issue some more.

I'd say the vital new role for UN SC is to come over to Toad's house and wash his car...

well... actually.... even after 12 years they didn't do anything about iraq about it.... the coalition did.   without the coalitition the sadman would still be dropping people feet first into the shredder and making deals with france for a new nuclear reactor.  while running terrorist training camps from the comfort of his gold toilet.

Yah know.. I bet with just an hour or two of instruction, I could get the French, German, Russian & Chinese SC reps to do a decent wash/wax job.

I mean, they must be trainable, despite the public image they project.

Great idea... send it off and see what they say 10B!

Yup! And France and Germany's hand wringing didn't bring inspectors back to Iraq......ONLY the  CREDIBLE threat of  military force brought the inspectors back to Iraq and even then Iraq didn't cooperate.

Iraq would have NEVER been delt with by the UN.

But China has already said that the UN cannot do anything to resolve the North Korean problem. Since China is the #1 supporter of North Korea, you have to take what they say seriously. Then again, it isn't like the UN could or would do anything anyway.
