Just to put things in perspective here, this is what I mean by "Maim", this is in a letter I sent to my squad regaurding some WW1 tactics
And I qoute:
The Hun bombers are freakin tanks and the Lewis gun is a pop gun. OK we all know it, but... There is an Achilles heel on those tanks. It is called the Vertical stabilizer. That's the thingie that the rudder is attached to. Blow it off! Once the rudder n stabilizer is gone there is no way to control the plane and it will quite swiftly find it's way to the ground.
It is not as difficult as it sounds. First of all most bombers, when attacked, dive to the ground and fly the nap of the earth at just above stall speed, hoping you will firmly attach yourself to their six, cut your engine and try to follow their every move. You will of course be trying to shoot them, and in all probability hit the ground and crash, as they fly off laughing.
Instead, do shallow dives down onto the bogeys six, shooting at the wings, hull, whatever. Just before you collide pull-up and do a lo yo yo, and back down unto the bombers six. Make not colliding with the bomber or the ground your top priority. Relax, he is yours, play with him, savor the victory as you take little chunks out of him. Sortta like using a box cutter instead of a chain saw ... make em die slow ..... mess with there minds and savor their slow deaths...Like the difference between sipping Brandy in a Snifter and chuggin a beer, why hurry? Enjoy it
The Lewis gun is thee preferred weapon of a Psychopath
As he approaches your base, hope springs up in his heart! "Yes!" he thinks "I'm gonna make it, I'm gonna level the base in spite of this dweeb on my six!" There in lies the greatest glory of your victory, just as he gets his hope up... just as he is about to achieve his goal!
Then you get close, when you think you are too close, then get you closer still, you stick your Lewis gun in the rudder and open up! Pull up just before you collide, yo yo back down and hit that rudder again and again, it is easy if you relax, and the satisfaction of watching it blow off ...
(sighs deeply)...
And then the final glory! There the helpless bomber pilot is,… all hopes dashed, as he struggles with the now useless controls... knowing all too well that his death is only a few heartbeat aways...
Sigh some moments should last forever,…
but fear not, for other bombers will be on the way..
