Pots call the Kettles...
« on: August 09, 2000, 12:13:00 AM »
Scene: Field capture attempt. Defenders get tanks out; park them next to tower and in the map room. They remain impervious to direct hits due to close proximity to 'undamageable field elements' and remain in place through several cycles of ack and VH regens; killing troops and foiling attempts at capture.

Capture attempt grinds on; chewing up incredible numbers of attackers and airborne defenders. The 2 defending tracks stay in place; parked advantageously to foil the brave goon pilots that drop at 1k or attempt to land.

Finally, a goon approches field at 10K; drops troops from high alt which allows them to remain invisible to ground units. Troops sneak past the tank parked in map room, and get the capture.

Defenders howl "unfair! Boooo hissss! Invisble Troop bug! You cheated!" (dialoge cleaned up for the usual reasons.  )

I laffed my bellybutton so hard I augered.

I love this sim.

Hiding in map room or whatever and you deserve invisible troops dropped on your head.

Names, names, names

I don't think they assign names to invisible troops!

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

I've never heard of being protected by the map room.

I have been in there several times and have been killed by a passing 1c everytime.

There is no immunity to damage by being near a "undamageable field element". If whats meant is that the track is not sitting in a open field but is sheltered from gun passes on one side by another object, guess so. Now if the Tracks were invisible, like the troops that were dropped, that would be dweebery.

Yup, you can get blowed to bits hidin' in the map room.  You guys used a game bug to cheat out the valient defenders    I'm sure HT will fix the troop bug in the next version.

Sitting in the map room does not make you invulnerable.  I tried it once, backed a panzer right into it and sat where I had only about a 60degree FOV with the main gun.  Along comes a jug and kills me from BEHIND (level bombing even, dinnae those things had nordens).  Parking by the tower just makes sense.  It severely limits the angles attackers can use to attack the vehicle.

Cave, I agree. I'd like to see the tower being able to be destroyed however.

Sort of like cat and mouse game - hmm, he is hiding, well, let's destroy his hiding place
