"Britain Alone, 1940" Frame 3 Score and Final Wrap Up.

Frame 3 "Target London" Scored as a Luftwaffe victory

The LW came in hard and fast from the east, and with a phalanx of fighters in front, drove their Ju-88 formations towards the heart of London. The RAF squadrons were hard pressed to group quickly enough for a coordinated attack, and soon found themselves embroiled in feirce combats from the mouth of the Thames, to London itself.

The raiders dropped on the city center and caused much destruction to the capital. The bombers then ran a running battle with the remnants of the RAF force as it egressed south east for home.

*************************************************

Event Score Overall: Draw.

LW: 3612 pts
RAF: 3895 pts

The LW consistantly had fewer #s then they were supposed to have, and so their final standing is improved slightly to reflect that.

My own thoughts: Attrition was a factor for both sides in this, and both sides had a major victory out of reach with the #s of losses sustained. Frame 1 was the best frame for the RAF, and frame 3 was the best frame for the LW.

The whole "who won" thing should always take a back seat to "did you have fun?" and "did you get a WW2 experience out of it?". I hope that in at least one frame, everybody got a taste of what it might have been like during the Battle of Britain, and perhaps read up on some of it.

My thanks to all the COs, and participants, I hope you enjoyed it.

Warloc not that it matters but your math might be a little off unless there were negatives in there.

Quote

27 BF 109s lost to all causes: 270 pts.
16 BF 110Cs lost to all causes: 320 pts
27 JU88s lost to all causes: 675 pts

Total Allies: 1065 points

RAF 270 + 320 + 675 = 1265 not 1065

I had fun.

Thanks I didnt see that error, I have ammended the #s. The LW will still take frame 3 (with fewer pilots), but the event as a whole I will call a Draw.

Sorry Warloc..my bad.  Even had the long math drawn out and flat blew it.. D'oh!!

On a slightly different note, however, I wanted to pipe in and say a big

THANK YOU!!

to all who participated. From the Setup CM standpoint, things went very smoothly. We started each of the three frames on time with minimal numbers of people not in squads at launch time. There was very little whining and squad COs seem to take the effort to check their fields before launch time.

I think this was a very good campaign.   Warloc, the Side COs, and all particpants!  Excellent job!

I did have fun! Frame 3 was a great one for the Mongrels. We flew to London and back and only lost 1 pilot out of 18! Excellent job on the part of the escorts!

Was much fun, as these always are. to everyone involved in making them happen and to all that participated.
