Gun trend?
« on: October 13, 2003, 04:49:55 PM »
I was thinking about the Beta "c" mags, using the same technics as the MG 13-15-34 drums. Been around for awhile, for the HK 11, 21 (7,62) and the HK 13 (5,56).

Whats with the Multishot mags for the MP5?
Is it possible to lay supressing fire with a submachinegun and for how long? Whats the use of using a 9mm for this purpouse?
How accurate would it be?

To me it seams like its a very useless thing for a handy and light weapon like the MP5.

I just want to hear some thoughts around the idea, what do you all think?

Ummm... that's a very odd question to casually ask.

I have no experience with C-Mags, so I'll not even try to figure out what the hell you're asking there.

But... I do recall a story from a commando unit that was using KAR-15s in a raid.  They were in a shootout for about 3 minutes with the guerillas shooting back at them the whole time.  Then they (the commandos) opened up with an M-60.  The firefight suddenly ended (guerillas took off running).  My grandfather told a very similar story involving a .50 cal in WW2 where it hushed up the Germans when the 30/06 wasn't.

Seems its just environment.  In your typical rural setting, anything is going to work for supression.  As people get experienced, it starts to make a difference.  But, back to the original point... that's a very odd question to ask.

Just based on reading and Raven Shield...
In and urban/CT/CQB environment (short range), MP5 is viable as a support weapon, if the assaulters have shotguns and pistols.  5.56 and 7.62 have too much risk over overpenetration, and ranges are very short.
It reduces magazine changes which make you vulnerable.
It lowers the height of the weapon which makes it easier to fire while prone.
In RS I like to use C-mag and a low power scope on the MP5SD5 for sentry removal.  C-mag lets you fire a lot of 3 round bursts to ensure a kill, and scope lets you get a sure headshot.

Yes, this is an accabtable explination, over penetration.
But thats about it.

In all other cases I would prefare a SAW.

You would prefer a SAW in CQB?? I hope you are as large as Ahhhnold and as fast as Deon Sanders. HK MP5 is the premier CQB weapon. Wait until you see HK's new stuff. I actually had the opportunity to go inside the "gray room" at the HK factory in VA. They have every single gun to have ever been made from HK, including the new, trendy stuff. Some fantastic CQB stuff coming out soon, keep your eyes peeled!

Well my prime weapon is the GPMG FN MAG, so the Saw M249 (FN Mini) is really a lesser burdon.
I love the HK stuff, but I am not to impressed with the latest things they brought up. I need to say: I am not a .223 fan at all.
