Best April Fool's Gag I've heard
« on: April 01, 2004, 03:26:22 PM »
Almost as good as the BBC's "Spaghetti Harvest" gag from years and years ago was a radio gag done by Lex and Terry this morning.  They had their viewers thinking that an 8-year-old boy was going to get his first tattoo.  They had the authentic-sounding machine buzzing zipzipzipzipzip and were telling the kid to scream into a t-shirt.  Their phone lines were jammed with angry callers until they announced "April Fool's".  :lol  Only a handful of people stayed on long enough to admit that they'd been had.

played it today as if viacom pulled him off air, for 2 hours the had 2 new deejays, he came back on at 7:30.   k-rock in newyork was flooded with calls as well as  some of the NYC tv stations reported it as truth and had to run retractions later.:p

I posted a very official looking message on the coffee and soda machines in the kitchens at my work today.  It has caused some consternation:

Symantec to replace coffee and soda with selection of new, healthy teas
1April2004 - The facilities team, with the support of management, has decided to implement an exciting new change in the kitchens.  In the interest of improving health and performance, coffee and soda will be removed from the kitchens and the tea selection will be expanded.

"This is an innovative new step towards securing our position as the world leader in security and infrastructure software," says Randy Clements, Chief Health Officer.

Citing chronic sleeplessness as a significant cause of tardiness, management hopes that the shift will help Symantec retain and expand our position in the global market.

How will this affect employees?
Over the next few days, all vending machines will be emptied and re-stocked with alternative drinks such as:
- Sparkling water
- XtremeChai
- Non-sparkling water
- Clamato clam juice
- Rockin' Distilled Water

"It is important to our customers that they can trust our judgment to be consistent and reliable " adds Brandon Mackle, Senior Director, Public Trust Department.  "Recent journalist inquiries about the pervasiveness of caffeine and sugar in our organization has opened our eyes to this new threat to maintaining a strong public image.  Our customers expect us to provide them with consistent, reliable service without resorting to stimulants."

Caffeine and sugar, enemies of productivity

When will the change take effect?
According to Charles Farley, Facility Management Supervisor, Santa Monica, the change will start on April 1, 2004.  "We anticipate some resistance, but security will be on hand to ensure an orderly transition to healthy beverages".

my favorite gag of all time (nice and simple, too) is great one to pull on anyone, but especialy guys who are into cars, and kinda proud of it.

just collect a couple handfulls of broken car window glass.  then while they are at work or asleep, pop the locks, roll down the passenger side window, and sprinkle the broken glass around in and around the car.

most people are too busy to deal with it right away, so they tape some plastic over it, to get by for a few days until they can get it into a shop and have a mechanic roll it back up for them.

I'm doing it right now capt!  Local salvage yard gave me a window... I broke it and have it all set up.  Now I'm just waiting for the driver to get home.

it's killing me!! :D

another gag (that kind of spiraled out of control very quickly) we pulled on a guy back in the mid 80's.

this guy was the foreman at my first shop job.  he drove this ratty old, POS, 60-something dodge.  he was always having to work on it.

anyway, we where all having a few beer in the parking lot after work (3 am), the foreman was inside doing his turn-over for dayshift, so he got out of there about 20-30 min after the rest of us.

we where all kinda standing around, and this one guy notices a pice of 3/16-1/4" braided cotton rope lying in a mud-pudle and picks it up.   it was all covered in grease and soaking wet and he thought it was an old coil wire or something.

so this other guy asks for it, runs over and pops the hood on the bosses car, removes his coil-wire, cuts the rope to size, puts the caps from the original on the rope and puts the rope back in-place of the coil wire.

the idea was to have a couple beers with the guy, then when his car wouldn't start, let him screw with it for awhile, then replace it without telling him and let him wonder what was wrong with it for awhile.

the thing is, that when he came out, he was in too big of a hury to stop for a beer, jumped in the car and it started.  we can only figure that it was wet enough to carry current (must have had a strong coil).  so he drives away before we can stop him.

the next day he tells us how he made it 8-10 miles out of town and his car just quit.  leaving him stranded on a deserted road.  he didn't get home until almost 8am.

we never did tell him since it had grown into a fairly unweildy prank.  he ended up getting rid of that car.  said he was tired of it always leaving him stranded.

btw- oct, if possable offer to follow the guy in when he takes it to the mechanic (so he can have a ride home if he has to leave it ;)  )

that way you can see the look on his face when it unfolds.

Well it was good for a minor laugh.  They saw me taking a picture from inside and then noticed the intact window :)

I guess it was worth the trouble to see the initial shock.

I hid the Network Admins server keyboard behind some papers next to the desk, then replaced it with another keyboard and placed the cable in a way that looked like it was plugged in...
After about an hour I hear banging on the unplugged keyboard and many many cursewords followed by the servers being hard shutdown... More curse words and finally I decided it had gone to far.... I ran in and grabbed his finger before he did any real damage and showed him the joke..... He wouldn't talk to me for months...It was the last April fools gag I ever played on anyone...
Fortunately we are good friends now and he has forgiven me for the stunt...
