Internet Explorer Nightmare! please help?

Steve,

Did 616Fubar send you a special email package? LOL!

Save all your data to CD and reformat, reinstall Windows, go thru all the Windows updates from the Microsoft site, then your applications. Be sure to install Norton or McAfee anti virus right behind Windows. Run a virus/trojan scan on your data CD before you copy the files over to your hard drive. Also get a copy of AdAware or Spybot.

Once infected, this is the best way to fix it. All the others are half measures to keep you running, but you always end up with weird problems if you don't start off fresh.

Exactly, DVD Burners are now just as cheap as CDR drives, newegg has a 8X Multiformat NEC drive for about $72.  4.7GB on 1 disk, with disks costing a little under $1 a piece.  Dual Layer is around the corner but the media is still $14/disk.  The NEC is mentioned is firmware upgradable/hackable to make it a Dual Layer drive as well

I reformatted, although XP Pro is a royal pain in this matter.
I followed the directions and simply couldn't get it to reformat.

Then I remembered that I had recently seen a win98 boot disk in the back and on the floor of the closet in my office recently.  I used that boot disk to format the drive, worked great!

I used my zip disk to back up stuff.

First thing I noticed when loading my vid card is that it has different (more) tabs on the setup. Must have had some lingering drivers in there.  I'm very pleased at this.

Also, I was previously unable to load the chipset on the MB and was able to do this.

I'm hoping to see better frame rates and also hoping to get better results from my new joystick, it really was OVER sensitive.  hoping it was a result of lingering drivers from previous stick (same manufacturer, different models)

am I being overly optimistic?

Edit: Once again I thank all of you for taking the time to help me with this.  Time is irreplaceable and I appreciate the time you all have spent helping me.

Ahh yes the joys of reformating, this is why I do it every couple of months.  Registries get corrupted, disks get fragmented etc etc, a simple reformat every couple of months and your computer will love you.

Steve,
Reformat/Install has never been easier tha with XP.  Next time, make sure boot order is set in BIOS to boot from CD first and boot with XP disk in the drive.  Just follow the prompts, delete the partition, create the partion and format it.

Cool Rosco, and here I thought I was being clever.... a common solution it seems.

Hey, while I the attention of some of you experts,  does anyone know what this message means  "paraphrased"

CPU hyperthreading technology detected disabled

Should I enable it?   I'm assuming I can do so in BIOS.

paraphrased .....   hmmmmmm   seams to me i remember reading something about that in dealing with the open source code nitemare between microjunk , sun, linux battle ..

As for hyperthreading It should be turned on ... but i'll let the intel pro's chime in here .

I'll just take my Amd's and run off to my corner now ...
