I just ordered a new NEC FP2141sb-bk 22" ag CRT Monitor to replace my Aging Viewsonic Optiquest q95 19" sm Crt Monitor. I should have asked this before I ordered it (I have 30 days to return if unopened) but Does any one use this monitor and how good does it work? All the reviews I read rank it as one of the best if not best 22" monitor but few of those reviewers are actually gamers and non of the are on AH2.

I know the pro's and cons for Aperture Grille vs shadow mask crt's I use a nec fe2111sb-bk at work the only two issues I have with is you can barely see the 2 line shadows cuased by the damper wires they are barely noticable color is good text is great there are no bluring effects on the edges. shadow mask doesn't have the line but does have the buble effect. the lines in my monitor at work are barley noticable in white backgrounds you have to actually search for them to see then in darker back ground. However I don't game at work so I have no idea how it handles games and I use a 22" fe2111 the fp2141 is supose to be better with faster refreshes. me fe2111 has some issues with emf mostly cell phones and wireless rf devices. I have not recieved the 2141 yet I got from provantage it took less then 48 hours to ship basic ground however I was asleep when they sent it and i didn't wake up so i have to wait till ups re-attemps delivery monday (I may just pick it up monday morning). guess I'll just open the it and try it out. there is a small lot of this monitor that has some issues (defect in the lot). nec should be able to replace it if thats the case. I payed $580 for this monitor before taxes and shipping. I'm hoping it's good and I'm hoping it handles games as well as graphics and text.

what ya' doing w/ the old 19"? My 19" fried and i'm stuck flying on a teeeny tiny 15" monitor. (dang you ex-wife and the $60,000 divorce I'm still paying for!!!)

I'd be happy to pay for shipping...........

I have 5 pcs in my house (not including lap tops) Mine, My Wifes, My kids, my 2003 server box, and my linux box. I also have enough part lying around to build 2 more PC's (so mabey each one of my kids may get one), but I only have 3 monitors my 19" My wifes 17# and my Kids 15 or 14" POS. Iam going to pass my 19" down to my kids and the POS either down to another of my kids or to one of my alternate systems (2003 or Linux). I have extra low end CPU's (p2 and p3 all sub 1ghz) extra memory (pc133) and an extra MB (asus p2b bx and a p3b bx) Iam out of controllers (gave them away to guys on this board) and Iam always looking for cheap low end monitors that can handle at least 1280x1024@75hz and Iam always looking for super cheap 10gb or larger HDD's.

Check the garage sales, pawn shops,and seconds stores

I found a 21 inch last summer at a garage sale for 30 bucks ..
its a good working monitor but boy does it warm up the room .

my little whole in the wall pc store ussually has 19in refurbs for around 110.

I bought one about a month ago. It is the best spent dollar, for a computer item, I have ever purchased, and I am very pleased with it. I think everyone should see the Internet, or see gaming through a monitor as good as this one. I wonder why people get the best motherboard, fastest cpu, greatest videocard, then get a not so great monitor. I would buy this one again. Also, Skuzzy endorsed the product, and he was most correct. I am glad my old 19" monitor quit working. I really enjoy gaming again.

Ok I have the monitor set up. Iam running it at 1600x1200x32 @ 100hz. Iam running ahII in the same res with 4xFSAA and 8XAF

1) the bad
Three things I don't like about it, with out the navi software it's takes a bee with an itch to set up, even with nav set up It's a pain. Mostly becuase of how many settings you have and one setting specially geometry effects another setting. Some people may actually like this. I like it's choices but not the way one control effects another and how hard it is to sync them all up just the way you like it. if you have one of these your probably going to spend at least 15 minutes to a half an hour in each resolution getting it perfect. The other thing I didn't like was the Flicker. you basically have to punch up you refresh rate to kill the flicker NEC recemends 1600x1200 @ 85 hz I would recomend at that res to run 100hz. and lastly the Naviset software isn't included in the box you have to download and you have to have a video card that supports it (DCC/CI Compatible) and you need windows 2k/xp or mac OS X, Otherwise it's off to the buttons with ya and that is just a nightmare at least the naviset gives you back ground template images to work with.

2) the good.

Quality: Once you have it set up the way you like it. the dam thing is a work of art. text is crisp colors are absolutley awsome. Games make you feel you are there. It's almost over whelming at first. the size of the monitor and the clearity and color just suck you in.

Settings Options: They have a setting for just about every thing you could imagine and probly some you can't (this is also a bad thing see bad things above). If you like to tweak your display your in heaven with this thing.

Features. 3 brightness options right on the front of the monitor for text graphics and movies. built in 4 port USB hub. dual vga inputs.

Size: It's a 22" monitor with a 20" veiwable (no corner distortion compaired to 21" with 20 Viewable) and its has about a 19" footprint. One thing though Weight! it's 76 pounds (beleive me I never heard the end of it my wife had to pick it up at ups for me and load it in the truck then into the house when I was at work) Be carefull what you put it on.

Other Notes: EMF electro magnetic field. Keep your cell phone, cordless phone and wireless devices away from it. keep it away from neon/halogen lamps. and subwoofers the will mess with the picture. also this is an AG crt monitor there are 2 wires that hold the mask in place unless your on a light background you wount notice them. I can notice them in AH2 against the sky and sun. they don't really bother you but you will notice it specially the top wire since its above the cockpit against the sky. imagine a very light gey and thin line sort of like a light pencil mark running across the screen from left to right 1/3 of the way down and 2/3 of the way down. Cost is another consideration this is one of the most expensive crt monitors on the market. I payed about 630 for mine.

About the people I bought it from. I got the monitor from provatage.com list price was about 581 buck plus shipping. they ship ups. I ordered on wed night and it arived on friday. I wasn't expecting it so I wasn't at awake to recieve it. If its cheaper on provantage I highly recomend them, and for the NEC sp2141sb they are lowest without setting for a refurbished.
