Why are the quotes and hyperlinks screwy?

Im getting - for example:

Dowding:  "Look at this cool site!"

and the link will show as;

[ http] [url ] http://www.gaysex.com [/ url] [/http ]  (spaces there on purpose)

Whats the dealio?
