When I engage the auto-climb my airplane sometimes goes into a dive and then pulls up at a very steep angle. Why is this? Also, is it possible to increase the rate of climb?

when auto climb in engaged it will set a rate of climb based on a default speed (i don't know if it's optimal or not) but if you are travelling under that speed the auto pilot will lower the nose till you reach that speed then it'll pitch up and then finally settle in at the default rate of climb.

and if you want to change the rate of climb, simply change to auto climb speed

to do this type into yuor radio buffer:

.speed xxx

where xxx is what you want your speed during your climb to be.

as far as i know far all planes lowering the climb speed increases the rate of climb. likewise raising the climb speed slows the rate of climb.

The default climb speed for the planes is optimum at sea level. On the F4U it is around 150mph. I won't quote others as I can't remember off the top of my head

Loser is correct to adjust this bring up the radio bar and type .speed XXX XXX = speed you want. Don't forget the important dot . before speed.

I usually use the default for initial climbout but as I get some alt I will use the .speed command to increase my speed to 200 or 250 (this lowers the climbrate but gives me more speed to fight(run maybe) with if I get bounced.

As others have noted, it isn't the 'auto-climb' that you are engaging, it is actually auto-speed. The speed happens to be set at a nominal rate which I think is supposed to be best ROC at sealevel or something. So, if you are below the set speed for autospeed, you will pitch down to obtain the given speed and then it will nose back up. Be very careful of engaging this in some planes at low levels... it -will- kill you

The 'autos', correct me if I'm wrong, are auto-speed, auto-angle, and auto-level.
