Howdy boys and girls of the AH community.

I was just putting an auction together to Ebay my guitar, but since I know theres a fairly musical following here with AH I'd let you all in on it first.

Martin Alternative X...


Fairly new concept of a guitar with a brushed aluminum top.  I get compliments everywhere I go.  I think it looks real neat, it sounds very good as well.  Fishman electronics make the sound very good when plugged in, it also produces good tone and volume unplugged for such a small guitar.

Hard Case, 2 packs of Martin SP light strings, Korg Tuner, Strap and Capo will be included.

In the store the guitar goes for $800-$850 without a case.

I'd like to see $700 for the whole shebang but when's the last time I got anything I wanted?

I'm selling this one to move on up to a Taylor, in case anyone asked.

Not sure of the shipping, but if you're anywhere near Ohio I can deliver it myself.

That would be pretty cheap for a Martin over here.. bad thing is, there's the shipping + toll payments... Was just thinking about buying a new acoustic guitar, but I'd rather buy one from Europe with lower costs. Sorry!

Thats a VERY nice guitar.  I don't know much about them, but I do know that the cheapest Martin I've ever seen was about $1800.

What kind of Taylor are you interested in?

I picked this guitar up in October 2003 at Guitar Center in Columbus, OH.  I think MSRP was something around $1,200.  On Sale and a little talking down later I picked it up with a hard case for $850 after tax.

It was my first acoustic-electric and I thought it was really cool because it was different.  I have learned a lot about luthiery and hows/whys guitars do what they do so I respect all of them but I wanted something that was different when I opened the case.  People look at it and they all compliment so I think Martin did something right.

I didn't even plan on buying it that day, I went to Guitar Center knowing I was coming home with an A/E guitar though.  I played some Ovation, Takamine, Ibanez so on so on and then this caught my eye through the glass of the soundproof room with an amp.  My buddy owns a couple Martins and I'd always liked playing them so I tried it out.  I loved the way it sounded, it was acoustic-electric and it looked COOL!  I talked the sales guy down a bit, he explained that the "Metal Martins" don't move as well as he thought they should (he does not own one but he owns a very very well touched up Taylor and can do amazing things with a guitar.)  Here is a clip of him playing, its all instrumental but I think you'll say 'wooooow' when you hear it.  Chris Ranney


Anyways...I think its a great guitar and would hang onto it if I could afford a Taylor outright but I can't.  It IS made out of brushed aluminum, even the head has an aluminum plate so it all matches.  Of course the capo is silver:)  The only 'bug' I could find with it is the usual embossed "CF Martin & Co." logo is a pressed on black metal decal.  It doesn't bond as well as it should with the aluminum and my using it as a capo storage space has worn off a bit of the logo.

Spread the word on this deal of a guitar, I don't WANT to sell it but I would like to move up in the guitar world.  It's a great first or second acoustic-electric for a fair musician.

did a little surfing on Musiciansfriend.com and found the same guitar.  I bought my Amp (Behringer Ultracoustic ACX1000) here and they usually have the best prices.  I order my strings online here too.  Elixirs for single digit prices instead of $18-25.

One thing I didn't mention, one of my favorite things about this guitar is the neck, the pressed rosewood.  It's got a silver tint to it and it looks amazing.  I don't know how Martin does it, but its not paint, its...just...neat

Again, I'd keep it if I had the cash on hand to put up for a Taylor but I do not.

Found a photo of the geetar!  My buddy's girlfriend took this photo over halloween weekend while playing a gig at a house straight out of deliverence (6 dogs, at least a dozen cats and a minimum of one full set of missing teeth among the 4 family members who lived in the home) but hey...it paid.

I'm hidden behind a mic and my buddy is a deer in the headlights.

some martins are pretty cheap:) the active electronic ones run about 599 brand new for the low line martin,,my buddy had one and couldnt get more than 400 out of it used,,but there not quite as nice as the full blow martin with all the binding thats for sure,,you get what you pay for somtimes
