I know it sounds crazy  but ive been having this problem every since I started using AH2 ive had a problem with strange disconnects  while in bombers.  it usually happens when im gunning in a bomber (my own)  or at the split second I drop a load of bombs. It always seems to be related to one of these two things as soon as i hit the trigger i get the "lost host connection" message this only happens in one out of 20 missions  I have an AMD 64 3400+  running an Nvidia  5900XT   Win 2K Pro.    almost a GiG of Balistix  ram.  I have everything possible shut down except windows /AH & my joystick prog (MS FFB2)

Has anyone else seen this happen or have any ideas?

Thanks

Yes, this happens to me too. I CTD while undertaking particular actions in the game. Specifically I will occasionally CTD when spawning a plane or vehicle, just as it bounces slightly as I "enter" it. Also sometimes if I hit the ground and die. I get the same thing when straffing ground targets and occasionally when pouring fire into buffs.

I've had this problem for the last couple of years now, ever since I went from a CH analog setup to a CH USB one. On my last PC I got round it by swapping PCI cards around in the PC. It seems to be some sort of interrupt conflict.

However on my new PC nothing seems to cure it. My motherboard won't let me reassign interrupts and the problem occurs whether I use an onboard USB, network card and soundcard or PCI ones. I've also tried plugging my CH stuff into a USB hub. The CH stuff is the only thing common between both PCs.

I'm resigned to living with this until my next upgrade, I'll just make sure I can play with interrupts on my next MB.

I'm not a techie but, are you guys running all your USB devices from the motherboard or from a powered hub?

I had problems with my CH USB gear until I got the powered hub.

Just a thought.

I've tried running them through the MB, through a PCI USB card and also through the USB ports on my monitor. I assumed the monitor was basically a powered hub but I guess it could be taking its USB power from the PC. Thanks MrLars, gives me something else to try.

I've always got the boot in bombers...AH I and II.....seems like it's a random thing for me...usually when I want to jump to another position.....I think its lag in a hop I go through.......Ping plotter shows a hop in denver that gives me trouble.

Mrlars  ....all of my usb items are plugged directly in to the motherboard.  Im wondering if it could be the Microsoft Force Feedback  Sidewinder  Control software since it only happens if i am actually pressing some sort of button.  who knows.   Skuzzy......has anyone else had the microsoft Sidewinder software cause any conflicts????  thanks guys

The force feedback has to be powered somehow, some motherboards don't supply enough juice to support multiple USB devices especialy when you add a FFB device.

Like I said, I'm no techie but if your USB devices are trying to pull more power than is available, something will have to suffer. Can this cause other components to act quirky? I don't know, but the cost of a USB hub is minimal enough to warrant a try, IMO.

I got mine at Radio Shack for $14 and change....make sure it's a powered hub.

I tried plugging my CH stuff into a powered hub tonight and went out straffing stuff. What I found though is that the hub doesn't solve the problem, at least not completely.

I didn't get any CTDs while spawning but got several while straffing strat and buildings. These dumps were not quite the same as the usual CTD. Instead of just dumping me immediately, the FE froze for several seconds, then dumped me. The CTDs were less frequent than usual though. I also got a couple of 1-3 second lockups from which the FE recovered, something that never happened before. There was also one sudden (no lockup) CTD as I scored hits on a B24 formation.

I'll keep mucking around with it, maybe its just a faulty stick?

Sorry to hear that the hub didn't solve your problems. The lockups sound to me like a sound problem, are you running full acceleration for your sound card? If so, try bringing it down a notch. Run and send Skuzzy your DXDiag, maybe even post it here.

Wow, good spot there. I'd been playing with turning sound acceleration down the day before, but had accidentally turned it back up too far. I've just played for a couple of hours with no CTDs. Maybe the hub has fixed it after all. Still too early to tell yet, but thanks anyway for all the help MrLars.

In case anyone else has this problem, I thought I'd give a quick update. I still occasionally CTD when spawning or hitting the ground, but it seems much rarer with the CH stuff plugged into a powered USB hub.
