Born in Toledo, Ohio, Teresa Brewer babysat me often, that's where I met Mickey Mantle...they had a thing going on.  My Dad was a Merchant Marine then, an oiler on the Edmund Fitzgerald.  Then he went back into the Navy '64. He had friends that went down on the Fitz.  My Grandma used to babysit Jamel Farrah..later known as Jaime Farr. LOL

I feel sooooo old, yet I have many more years to go.

How about the Cub Scout downhill racers? They gave you a small block of wood, 4 wheels and some nails. You had to whittle it yourself then there was a tournament.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

those rocked.

there was a weight cap so we'd do all of these experiments with lead pellets to get it as heavy as possible without going over or slowing it down.
this thread is doomed.

Yep did that in'68... mine was green with 2 fishing sinkers in the front underneath. Didn't win anything but I was proud of it...also Boy Scout Jamborees were great too.

Yep, I could go out and play all day long as long as I was home before the street lights came on... never worried about kidnappins or such.

Today you gotta keep tabs on your children 24/7.

Mine was purple metallic with a black seat, slick in the back and a sissybar.

Just saw this... Happy Birthday AWMac!!

Something troubling...in 30 years, what will the world be like, and will people say it was better today than it will be then?

LOL - no, my parents were always good about that and I always got separate presents. But over the years I never got that many birthday cards. The shops have very few birthday cards in December.

This time a friend sent me an interesting birthday card designed for Christmas babes like us. On the front it said "Happy Birthday", and inside it said "and Happy Christmas too". Neat!
