Perk point counting bug...
« on: January 26, 2005, 05:09:19 PM »
The following screenshot tells almost all...
http://www.rubricum.com/files/ahss12.jpg

I took the Tiger with the cost or 21 perks...moved myself into the camping place...and, shot 13 enemies.

Then, I got killed. The result:
-24 perks!!!!!!!

I know, that those perks varies...but, according to logs, they should not vary that much....

Killling 13 enemies should not get your perks into negative!!!!!

Ugh...A-non-native-and-a--thankgod-non-american-is-spoken- ;-)

This "bug" has been around since the inception of the Tiger in AHI.

Since it's been complained about for years, I figure it must be a "game feature" and not a bug.

Heh

I thought you only saved your perks if you came back alive no matter how many you shot down.

So my question is do you still earn perks in a perk object?

The Tiger may have been more than 21 when you launched.
A Rook who first flew 09/26/03 at the age of 13, has been a GL in 10+ Scenarios, and was two-time Points and First Annual 68KO Cup winner of the AH Extreme Air Racing League.

I think I figured this out quite awhile ago and made it known but nothing was done about it.

Here is my logic ...

The Tiger cost 21 perks.

You shot 13 targets that totaled 3.21 perks (very possible in a Tiger)

So when you get killed, HT should deduct the 21 perks but add in the earned perks

-21 + 3.21 = -17.79 <--- this is what you should have been deducted.

It appears that HT is calculating ...

-21 - 3.21 = -24.21 <-- this is what was really deducted from you.

In Java ...

perks = (killed ? (perkCost*-1) : 0) + perksEarned;

For this reason, and as JB73 pointed out .. I rarely take a Tiger from the base (landing spot) and if there is the slightest chance of dieing ... to the tower I go.

That´s a sensible and quite possible reason for that weird counting of perk points.  Thx, Slapshot!

And, Btw, I´m not whining...I´m wondering.

Wondering if it may be that the perk cost had changed by the time he was killed.
Although I was under the impression that the cost was fixed at the time you upped the perk ride/GV.
I.e. it may have been 21 when he upped it but by the time he got killed the cost may have gone up, but as I said I was under the impression it was fixed at the cost when you upped it.

Not impression Kev,, HT has said more than once that cost is time of spawn, not despawn.

Doesn't appear to happen then.
Lost more than a perky thing costs on numerous occassions.

I have had situations where the perk purchase price is say ...

21 perks

got some kills and died and lost say ...

-24.31 perks

but when I checked the perk cost for another Tiger in the hanger after I died was ...

32 perks

From the time that I died till the time that I checked the current perk cost was a matter of seconds. Yes, it is possible that the perk cost jumped that significantly from when I was killed to when I checked the current price, but I rather doubt it.

After I discovered the problem, too many times, while checking after a death, did things add up like I have explained.

I could be wrong.
