The Bush administration is fighting the former prisoners of war in court, trying to prevent them from collecting nearly $1 billion from Iraq (news - web sites) that a federal judge awarded them as compensation for their torture at the hands of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s regime.

"The rationale: Today's Iraqis are good guys, and they need the money"

Wonder if the real reason they dont want em to collect is they are afraid the Iraqi's we tortured might sue us. Kinda would set a precedent for it.

Bush is for Tort Reform. I mean it was only torture by terrorists. Suck it up and shut up.

I havnt seen one Lawsuit, but WW2 POWs are suing Japanese Companies for having to work in Slave Labor Camps, and the Batann Death March.

I do have to admit though, they are suing different entities on different premises as well.

Heres a snippet from dav.org, talking about the Reparations from Japanese Companies.

"The DAV strongly believes that our nation has a sacred obligation a duty to ensure that the defenders of our freedom are adequately cared for, compensated, rehabilitated, and returned to gainful civilian employment whenever possible"
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

does it really matter who won or lost?  Most college professors  nowadays will argue that we won WWII by shamfull means and that the victoms of our victory rate reparations from our atrocities.

And I strongly agree WE should.  Awarding a billion just strikes me as a little much (sorry, JMHO)... and expecting the "current" Iraqi people to pay that sum falls somewhere between arrogance and stupidity.  WE should be paying them because we sent them there in the first place.  It's not like our Govt/DoD (whatever) didn't expect captured pilots to be tortured... AND, it's not like WE aren't the one's who'll be paying the bill, in reality, anyway.

Should families of KIA's be able to sue former enemies for wrongful death?

It's time to declare all lawyers enemy combatants and the Bar assn a terrorist organization.
