« on: February 25, 2005, 10:01:08 PM »
Ok guys, i know this is posted here alot, but i need to know specifics on my vid card:

System Specs:
Ram: 1024mb
HD: 80gig soon to be 120gig
OS: Windows XP Home Edition

Vid Card:
Geforce FX5200
128mb ram

Now wat i realyt need to know, is wat settings do i need to change to increase performance in-game and out of the game, my current Frame rate goes from 19-28 most of the time, hardly ever gets above 30, and i have never seen it get belkow 10, so any advice would be appreciated.

Depends very heavily on what CPU your computer has.  AH depends more on the CPU than the video card for performance.  The 5200 isnt a real hot card either, but it will do the job if your CPU is up to the task.

I know people are always trying to spend other people's money in this BBS, but with that CPU you would see a huge benefit from a new midrange card such as a Nvidia  6600 or such like.  Very good bang for buck right now. At  Res 1024, no AA or AF and default AH settings you will go 60 + FPS.

Do you preload textures to system memory?  Also, does your computer's CMOS setup give you access to the AGP aperture setting?

You have a decent CPU and 1GB of RAM, and while your video card is a low end card you should be able to max it out and get better fps than you are.

Most definitely.  Make use of that system RAM.  It speeds things up by already having the textures loaded into memory, and all it has to do is load from system RAM to the video RAM.  RAM is alot faster than your HD.

Make sure AF is either off or set to Application control.  AA should be no more than 4x, (preferably, if you are trying to get more fps, turn it to application control.  You can always kick it up a notch later if your fps improves dramatically).  Make sure Vsync is on.  Make sure your monitor refresh rate is set as high as it will go for whatever resolution you are running (example, mine is set at 1024x768 resolution, 85 Hz refresh rate).  Your ingame sliders to control video settings move to performance.

Once you see how high your fps will go this way, you can start pushing up the graphics on the ingame sliders until your fps is where you want it.  I notice a big difference by keeping the detail range down to just above halfway.  My framerates are liveable with it higher, but can sometimes dip down too low.  So I learn to live with the lesser setting.

Also, which max texture setting are you using in AH?  1024?  512?  256?
