Whistling Death

Guadalcanal is an island southeast of New Guinea, part of the New Hebrides islands between Australia and the Philippines. Guadalcanal was a prototypical Pacific island, some 15 miles wide and 40 miles long:
The previous June, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff argued out a war plan for the Pacific. Among other things, this entailed a thrust through the Solomons aimed at taking islands that could provide support for an attack on Rabaul. They began moving assets even before finalizing on a target. When intelligence reached them of the Japanese building an airfield, they selected Guadalcanal as the target. The Operation was named Watchtower; command fell to Admiral Ghormley, CINCSOPAC (under Admiral Nimitz CINCPAC).
Guadalcanal was 590 miles from the air field at Efate, 715 miles from Santo Espiritu, and 1100 miles from Noumea on New Caledonia, the USN's advanced HQ in the region (and the last decent harbor until you get to Rabaul). This created difficulties in supplying Guadalcanal once it was seized - but then, they expected only to have to fight for a short while. Then the air units would move in, the few Japanese units would be eliminated, and the area made secure, right?

shoot me an email bbs handle at hitechcreations.com.  The username/password don't appear to have changed.  If you supply 1/2 I'll give you the other 1/2 or just change it for you.

Salute all!

I'm new to Squad Ops so bear with me here.....

How does the "Side Assignment" selection work when registering?  I registered the 327th for the next FSO and see that we're on the "Current Squad List" but we're not listed anywhere on the "Side Assignment" page.  Am I suppose to select an assignment option/preference somewhere or is that assigned by someone later?

Thanks for your help.
Salute!

Hi KOOL!

Your not listed to the Side Assignment page yet because that is from the last Squad Ops. This coming Friday the 17th is our week off. This is the time the Admin CM sets up the squads and dials in the tour. After you register you can go to the “request side” link from the drop down menu.
http://events.hitechcreations.com/ (it may look different, we just updated our events site)
Anyway after you go to the request side link you do just that. :) Put in your:

User name
Password
Commitment level
And side request and send it in.

After you have done that you just wait. :)

I was wondering if the Side Assignment page was from the last tour.  Thanks for clearing that up for me daddog! :aok

Another quicky question if I may.........

Can a squad CO increase their squad size after a tour starts or are we locked in at a certain number of days prior to the start of the tour?

Currently I registered a small 4-6 pilot squad but the response in my group is growing.  If a couple more pilots in my group commit to the next tour I may have to bump up to the next squad size.  Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks again for your help.
Salute!

KOOL you will have to stick with 4-6 for the whole tour.  Since squads may go with two under or two over you can have as few as 2 pilots show up and as many as 8 show up without getting yourselves into trouble, but your stuck with that for the 3 weeks of the event.  After that squads may change their numbers.

Also on a quick side note I noticed the other day you need a 2nd e-mail from your squad listed on your site.  That is real important. Pick one of your guys that is flying in Squad Ops with you and have them set to receive e-mails from us. That way if you get run over by a tomato truck we still have another contact to get the orders out. ;)

The next FSO has not started yet. It's 68KO call .. but if you want to change your committment level number, I would say do it soon and send him a personal email asking him to up it.

I would say your last chance is probably today or tomorrow to change from 4-6 to something higher. But it is his call on that.
