A Suggestion for End-Frame calls
« on: August 07, 2005, 09:33:07 PM »
At the end of frame 2 GD had asked to see if the Axis wanted to call it a night. They said no. As we were barreling to kill a bunch of planes in the closing minutes of the frame, that had just attacked our base, the enemy says "Ok thats it..we call it!"

We had to break off. Those few planes might have been enough for us to win the frame. I recommend you do something to prevent this in the future. Pretty lousy for a team to call "Game-over" only after he has finished his attack.

Maybe no "early end" if theres less than 30 minutes left in the frame.

In the closing moments of the frame I was asked if Axis would like to end the frame. We still had 8 aircraft up and 4 were actively engaged in combat at that time.

I requested a few more minutes to let it all play out. When I had word back from all axis that no more fighting was going on I sent back message that all Axis were RTB and we would agree to end hostilities at that time.

If it wasnt ok then the allied commander should have not agreed to end. But by the way it looked from my side the frame was over at that point anyhow.

When the first offer to end frame was sent to the axis, the reply was 'ask me again in 5 minutes'.

5 minutes later, the Axis CO agreed to cease hostiilities.

Before calling it, I reconfirmed with the allied side that they still desired to call it.  They did, it was called.

Ya Im not dumping on you guys..Im dumping on how the endgame setup is atm.  Perhaps a change should be in order on that. We told our CO that we had vis and were engaging, then they called endgame. Perhaps our CO should have challenged this right then and there, but I think he thought he had to end it right then.

From now on..If I see an enemy..and they are calling endgame..I will contact you that we recind our earlier request, and ask to play on. I just dont like the idea of someone wanting the game to continue just long enough to drop ord, but not get shot down is all.

Filth, the Axis targets were all killed long before the end of the frame.  Any attack you saw on Allied structures was not worth any points.  If something was contested, or even contested until recently, I am sure the end would not have been called.  It usually happens only after things have gone stale that the sides agree to end.  In the last frame of Whistling Death, the allies wanted to end, and I said Heck No!  We still had attacks to run, so the CM's allowed us to continue right till the very end.  I think the proceedure is fairly well managed right now, but I am sure there is room for improvement if you can think of something better.  A vote button maybe?

Rgr Tracer, I have no idea what the status of the targets where at that point. But someone was hitting something. You know how it is when you've re-armed and flown to an area, find the enemy and have the switch thrown. Id prefer so see the frame played out. Theres always a few guys left, trying to do something. Its fun trying to find them.

As the Allied commander I agreed to the cessation of hostilities because I had been calling for everyone to report any contacts they had for some time. The allies were only reporting and pursuing contacts that turned out to be friendly for quite a while.

No confirmed enemy contacts had been reported until right after we reached agreement to end the Frame. I think it was just bad timing that contact was made right as we agreed to end the contest. If I was too quick to end the Frame, then I apologize to the Allies.

Warlover you did no wrong in my eyes. Its just the rules I suggested that may need looking at. It was bad timing for sure.
