My wife showed me this interesting article about a highly regarded chocolate company.
"The Balitmore-based Naron Candy Company was acquired in 1946 by (now retired president) James Ross and Gerard Naron, both fresh out of military service after World War II. Naron was a chemist and Ross acquired his chocolate expertise in a rather unique way:
Ross, a pilot, was shot down over France, and was fortunately found by the French resistance before the Germans could take him prisoner. The resistance chose to hide him in the basement of a chocolate shop. For nine months, he passed the time by learning the craft of candy-making. When it was finally safe to come out of hiding, the French chocolatier/patriot gave Ross his recipes.
Today, the Naron Candy Company offers more than 160 items, made with the highest quality ingredients. For a catalog or mail order, contact Naron/MarySue at 800-92-NARON."
A strange twist of fate. Go to war a pilot and come back a chocolatier.
