it would be neat if we could light an enemy plane on fire by igniting a leaking fuel trail with tracers or whatever

Wouldn't work.  The fire could not spread up the stream at 200+mph that the aircraft is moving.

OK well why not be able to shoot a DROP TANK and they explode?????? screw the stream of fule ,drop tanks need to explode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea i like that idea, drop a full drop tank on a target then ignite it the next pass :)

"Bud" Anderson tried to do this; the tank would not ignite. American drop tanks were made of paper, therefor fall apart on landing.
