Allied Frame 2 Operational Orders
Operation Husky
September 9th, 2005
Start Frame: 11 PM EDT
End Frame: 1 am EDT
BRIEFING
Very soon the Allies will be launching an invasion force on Sicily. In support of the Allied Invasion Plan our mission on Friday will involve destroying Axis defenses in Western and Eastern Sicily. By accomplishing our offensive objectives we will ensure a successfully Allied landing on the Sicily with minimal losses.
Intelligence reports indicate the Axis still has strong offensive air capabilities and are expected to attack both Malta and our Western operations, which now includes our Carrier Task Force operating west of Sicily. It is vitally important that we maintain a strong defensive posture to reject the expected Axis attack and to minimize our Land Base, Port, and Carrier losses.
SQUADRON TASKS
WESTERN DEFENSE [VOX Channel 111]
Use Vox 111 for reporting of enemy contact type, location, altitude, and heading. Use Range channel for local operations.
412th FS Braunco Mustangs
Task: CAP C110
Primary Target: Destroy Ju87 & Ju88 Bombers
Equipment: P38G, 100% Fuel, 2-150 Gallon Drop Tanks
Launch Base: A104
VOX Channel: 111
Description: Launch from A104 and expedite northwest to C110 to provide CAP. Patrol at 20K at least 15 miles north of C110’s position on a line extending 10 miles east and 10 miles west of C110. Once on station conserve fuel to last the entire frame. Sketchy reports indicate a possible Ju87 attack with Me109 escort support. Should your squadron require refueling contact the ~~FATE~~ squadron on VOX Channel 110 and they will detach a section of their fighters to relieve your CAP station duties. Once refueled assist the ~~FATE~~ squadron in support of air defense at A103, A104, & P109. (Read the ~~FATE~~ squadron’s orders for more details).
~~FATE~~
Task: CAP A103, A104, P109
Primary Target: Destroy Ju87 & Ju88 Bombers
Equipment: P38G, 100% Fuel, 2-150 Gallon Drop Tanks
Launch Base: A103
VOX Channel: 111
Description: Launch from A103 and provide Land Base Defense CAP north, east, and west of A103, A104, and P109. Patrol no more than 20K and no more than 15 miles away from the nearest base in the defensive area as shown on the attached map. Assign a two-plane element to the west of the defensive area to protect from any back door attack. The remainder of the squadron is to be split equally to the north and to the east of the defensive area. Use of 1 or 2 forward scouts as an early warning measure is permitted at the CO/XO’s discretion. Your primary objective is to destroy all inbound Axis bombers. Later in the frame you may be called upon to relieve the 412th FS Braunco Mustangs from Carrier CAP so they may RTB for fuel. Expect an advance warning from 412th FS Braunco Mustangs to allow your detachment to RTB for fuel prior to relieving them. The 412th FS Braunco Mustangs will be monitoring on VOX 111.
WESTERN OFFENSE [VOX Channel 112]
Use Vox 112 for reporting of enemy contact type, location, altitude, and heading. Use Range channel for local operations.
Rogue Squadron
Task: Fast Strike Force to A114 & Target Of Opportunity
Primary Target: Base Strats (Ammo, Fuel, Barracks, Radar). Target of Opportunity TBD during frame.
Equipment: B26 (SINGLE ONLY - NO FORMATIONS) 50% Fuel, 12-250lb Bombs
Launch Base: A103
VOX Channel: 112
Description: Launch single B26 bombers (no formations) from A103 and head directly to A114 to attack Base Strats. Target Ammo Bunkers, Fuel Stores, Barracks and Radar. Do not target any hangers as these targets will are assigned for another bomber group later in the frame. Your assignment is a difficult one. This will be a fast strike attack at low altitude (5K to 7K) and will surely encounter enemy intercept fighters, however using single B26s will minimize our risk due to downed bombers or lost drones during maneuvers or due to vulched drones left at the base during rearm. This assignment requires a one-pass bombing run effort, you have only one shot at this target, do not turn back for a second bombing run. Get in fast and get out quick is your directive. After dropping ordinance on A114 extend southeastward away from the base toward A47. Once you’re clear of enemy fighters make a wide turn right back to A105 (or A25 should A105 be under attack), avoiding A114, and hot pad for a second mission of target opportunity (TBD during the frame). After rearming head north out of A105 (or A25) and hold in sector 4.5 as indicated on the map for assignment from KOOL Frame 2 CiC. During the inbound and outbound run on A114 the 56th Fighter Group and MAW will be your escorts however after you’re clear east of A114 and turn for your RTB your escorts will detach and continue to A47.

Task: High Altitude Bombing V19, A18, A114
Primary Target: Vehicle, Fighter, and Bomber Hangers
Equipment: B24 (With Formations), 50% Fuel, 8-1000lb Bombs
Launch Base: A103
VOX Channel: 112
Description: Launch B24s from A103 and head north as indicated on the map. This high altitude bomber attack requires a minimum of 25K to be successful and is imperative that your group reaches the V19 no later than 50 minutes after frame start. Target only hangers at each of the bases V19, A18, and A114. Pinpoint bombing is key here as well as communicating individual target assignments within the squadron. Last thing we want is for duplicate bombs from being release on the same hanger. Also, it is very important that you do not go back for a second bomb run at any of the bases. Doing so will risk your bombers to enemy intercept attack and will breakdown the group and escort defense integrity. After making the sweep from V19, A18, and A114 return to base at A25 and end flight. There will be no second mission for the B24s, thus minimizing our exposure and risk for the frame. The 327th Steel Talons will provide your escort support during your mission.
327th Steel Talons
Task: High Altitude Escort
Primary Target: Close Escort Duty – Protect B24s to V19, A18, A114
Equipment: P38G, 100% Fuel, 2-150 Gallon Drop Tanks
Launch Base: A103
VOX Channel: 112
Description: Launch P38Gs from A103 and provide close escort support for B24s targeting V19, A18, and A114. Maintain visual contact with the B24s at all times. Hard deck during escort duty is no lower than 2000 feet below the B24 formation. Once the B24s finish their mission and are well clear of A114 you are released for fighter sweep at A114 and north. RTB any near friendly airfield for rearming/refueling as needed after the B24s have released you.
