Chicago's Air and water show
« on: July 11, 2001, 10:54:00 AM »
Gents, I am flying my friends and I to the Air and water show this summer.  I have a question for you local chicago folks - is there a smaller airport in the chicage area that caters to light airplanes?  I'm from Atlanta and I know they hate light airplanes coming into Hartsfield.  I am looking for a class D airport that accomdates travelers like ourseleves.

Also any recomendations on places to stay that has a good view?

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

LaVa

you gotta be joking right?

fly to meigs airfield, its right downtown.

they charge alot of money for landing fees tho, like 20 bucks if i remember but its the only light airport thats like 1 mile from where you can see the air and water show  :) plus the pattern flies over a beach so mabye you can see some hot chicks while you're landing. I used to go lay there in the sun and watch the airplanes land  :) and the girls too  :)

btw this is the first year in the past 4 that i will miss it since i dont live in chicago anymore  :(

Some of the show stages out of Meigs, and it's not that large, so there might be a few issues around show time.

I'll be watching it on Lake Michigan on my parent's boat, which is a bout the best seat in town if the lake is halfway calm  :)
