An Explanation PLease..
« on: January 01, 2001, 05:49:00 PM »
Something confuses me in a few ways.
I do not understand why some "squads" require their members to fly only a certain bird (or birds).
It's my impression that (at least from what I hear) that "games" are created to have fun with. With that, why would a person join a squad which will limit the experience and fun of flying all aircraft???
I enjoy flying a bit of every plane on AH (yes, incl. ground vehicles) for it teaches me to react differently to each problem I'm faced with.

I am only asking for an explanation to my question. No hate to any squad here.
 ...just curiosity.

 THANX ALL.

Well because it is their squad

some squads like to keep it historical. You didnt see many 109 flying among F4U in WW2.

If their squad only wants you to fly goonie, you fly goonie or dont join.

There are plenty of squads who will let you fly any plane.

It all depends on what your definition of fun is.  For some, flying as a team is more important that being able to do whatever you want.

Sports are supposed to be fun.. ever wonder why everyone on one team dresses alike?

Of course, its up to you to decide what you want to do.  There are many squads that don't have these requirements.

I'm enjoying to fly almost every plane in AH.
When I'm in hangar I look the list wondering what plane should I take out to the fight now
Gotta love Zero, Flying that plane really gives lots of perk-points (I just wish those points count when perks came in...)

Ahhhhhh.

I see the point in which was made.
I hadn't thought to reference my curiositty against history nor every day sports.

I thank all for enlightening me.
My curiosity is now satisfied and I'll think before I ask next time.

More so than that, it's important to have similar a/c types in order to develop consistant wingmanship tactics - for example, a Macchi 202 is too slow to clear the 6 of a Typhoon without the Typhoon getting dangerously slow. There are also fuel and formation considerations.

Most squadrons will let you fly whatever you want in anything other than organised meets though, VMF-115 included

When I flew with 416RCAF in WB the squad was more important for me. The fact that they mostly flew the planes I did not like much only helped to immerse in the WWII pilot's experience. You show up, you and your buddies are given a plane - often inferior to those of an enemy, you are given a task. Just like the real life.

In some BOB scenarios Hurries would be tasked with bomber intercept while more capable Spits would tangle with their escorts.
Scaring a bunch of Ju87s drop their load short of target in Hurri I (8 7.62 MGs) and killing none is was more fun then killing 3 109s while flying 190 in a mindless furball.

Besides, flying the same plane you can really master it well. There were guys in WB flying F4F throughout the whole tour with amasing results.

We are Luftwaffe, but the colour of the planes I fly are blue or silver...in the MA

We stick to LW planes in the SEA.

Leave that squad...
