Looks decent for a non real antique.  I mean it seems real, but it ain't meant for swordfighting, is what I mean.

No, they are showpieces I know that.  I'm more interested in whether or not they are as old as the seller claims and finding a way to put a value on them.

reminds me of something my father used to tell me about swords

"it's bad enough to get you into trouble, but not bad enough to get you back out."

Yeah, if you rush a bunch of gangbangers with a tactical sword, you're asking for it. :lol

The fact that it had a serial number stamped on it doesn't really please that statement... :huh But I dunno what WWI Japanese metal stamping technology was like.

The blades are forged.  If not then someone did something to the metal to make it appear forged.  You can see the swirl marks in the metal, looks just like some others I've seen that ARE authentic.  The first one has brass accents and the guard is very worn on one side, right where the fingers of the right hand would rub against it.  The brass is heavy and fairly old looking, but it cleans up nicely enough.

The silver one, the blade also looks forged, but the rest looks too new to be that old.  The wood of the handle, under the wrapping, is new and fresh looking, and the silver isnt worn anywhere or tarnished.  Also, the brass accented sword has much more of a curve to the blade, whereas the one with silver accents is almost straight.  Not sure if that makes a difference.
