« on: July 20, 2001, 04:44:00 PM »
Just recieved the first patch in the Beta a few days ago. Because of the NDA I can't say much, but I will say I just bought some Brillcream to put on the back of my neck so the hair will lay down.

When you get more than 100 people online, let me know.

It do look good for playing with yourself, but then, so do many others.

(But please keep us updated with screenshots when you can, cause they are pretty)

Jihad, definitly install the new patches and redo your setup before playing. Mucho changes have been incorporated into the game, as well as some FM tunings.

I can't say how the game will play with 100 players as it is set up only to use 32, but I did have many flights on different servers with up to 11 people and had no degradation or frame loss in the game. And this was using someones computer in there home as a server across the internet, not a risc server on a high bandwidth pipeline. 32 players in a furball is enough for me anyway, I have a hard time keeping track of 2 boogies  :p In fact I cant remember ever having 100 planes in AH in a dogfight or a mission at one time anyway so I guess it don't matter.

The game is progressing very well at this stage and you 109 pilots will love that plane. Have to say it is the first time I really enjoyed flying a 109, what a fine piece of machinery it is (this coming from a hard core VVS pilot)  :D The FM for me is tremendous being the only plane's I have ever flown are an S3-A Viking, a piper cub and comanche. Wish there were some real pilots who have recently flew all the different WW2 A/C that could comment on the FM in all the different games, so the FM arguments would end. IL-2 had a 109 pilot fly the 109 and he commented that the FM seemed correct, so IL-2 has at least one plane semi right.   Can't say much more, but the game is worth a look when it hits the shelf in november, It will be a nice complement to your list of flight sims.

One other note is, I cancelled my script with AH today as I had little to no time to fly with work and IL-2 getting in the way. Hope to be back in the future, I sure will miss the support that HTC has given it subscribers and hope that Oleg at IL-2 can do the same.....

I've never flown a 109 so my opinion doesn't count for much - but all the WW2 test pilot accounts I've read show the 109s compressing badly in dives, I don't see this in IL-2.

If a person likes boxed games, doesn't mind a suspect flight model, <IMO> and has a fairly high end system thet won't be disappointed with Il-2.

Graphics are state of the art, the sensation of speed near the ground is very nice too.

The cockpits are the best I've ever seen in a flight sim, better than Janes WW 2 Fighters by a large margin.

Gunnery is VERY hard, almost to the point of being unenjoyable, the nose bounce/head movement is very disconcerting to me and the fact that you can turn it and cockpit graphics off screams "game" to me - not simulation.

I`m hooked.I love IL2.
I aggree with cleaner,32 people is enough.
That`s like as many as a huge furball over A1.
But no airquake,in mission mode everyone has a set target etc.
I`m interested in squadron level small missions,so it`ll be perfect for me.
And it`ll be free online play.
AH is a very nice piece of software, but I think IL2 fits me better.
The FM is being tweaked,if it gets better every update,it`ll be perfect by the time it`s released.

Take her home Jochen ....  (notice the blue cockpit light)

We`re walking home....(crew allready jumped out and ran away)

Jihad, That's why I like IL-2, you have so many options as far as view goes. For first time simmers you can make the view system somewhat easy, and as you get better you can make it cockpit only. Also remember there is no 6 view in any view so that is a plus right there, unless you use the tracking view.... yakrobat

Another thing is in the online games, all settings are determined by host alone.  So, as long as you know who's hosting a game, you'll know what to expect for realism's sake.  And, very true, I don't ever recall seeing 100's and 100's of players in the four years I've played online flight sims.  In fact, it's impossible to actually 'see' that many at one time.  And while Il-2 limits 16 players to a mission environment, there are no theoretical limitations for AI - though there certainly have to be practical ones.  Thus, you get a multitude of server environments, or arenas, in which to play a strictly historical, Soviet-German environment.  The cost: onetime charge of $US40-50 dollars.  With the 16 player coop mission games, you can have 8 vs 8 along with AI elements to recreate many different times and places in the Great Patriotic War.

Like I've said before, if you like aerial jousting with other sim player-honchos in an 'anything goes' nonrestricting planeset arena, you won't like this game.  But if you have an interest in the Soviet-German War, and want a taste of what it might have been like, then get this game.
