This since the Pope voiced his opinion on stem cell research. If Bush goes for the research, many Catholics be against it, now that the Pope told the world he was against it. If Bush doesn't approve it, a huge voting base will think him right winged religous and be turned off, dumocrats would have a field day with it just as CNN is having one with the dilema now.
Being pro life, I have to say I find nothing wrong with research on a frozen embryo that would be discarded anyway.

Not all Catholics are waliking lock step with the pope.......

Especially in America...........

Most of "right wing" religious types are protestant and look at Catholicism as no better than a cult.........

Bush is screwed not because the pope but because of those very same "right wing" religious types.

Heh HE set it up. He wanted to meet the old man, and I do believe Bush values the man's opinion. After all, both are religious  :).

It's a classical case of religion vs science - or rather it is a good example of secular morals/ethics meeting religious ones. The religious one has the advantage of being able to claim divine intention and is likely to do so.

I believe research of this kind does not harm humans or human kind - quite the opposite. The church has in the past tried to stop advances in technology that in the end has benefitted mankind tremendously. I hope it does not succeed this time.

Even if Bush says "nay", research will continue. Without state funding in the US, with state funding in many other nations.

I guess having Bush consult the Pope is no worse than Nancy Reagan consulting horoscopes for Ronald.  :)

Ahhhh, yes... the Pope. Didnt he condem birthcontrol in Africa, a land often wrecked by starvation and now the AIDs virus. I'm sorry but the entire concept of most organised religions annoy me. They often seem to be more interested in Politics/power than souls.

I wonder if organised religion has done more good or evil in the world... my bet is evil

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

I'm sick and tired of religious people trying to get in the way of science.

I'm all for genetic research, with certain moral regulations. But dont stop science because some religion is against it.
