Yep Rip, I fear biological weapons more than anything else.

Imagine an "improved" genetically manipulated Ebola virus, in aerosol form. The ebola virus has an initial death rate of around 85%, diminishing with time, but it could probably be manipulated.

Spread in one airport, it'd quickly spread around the world, and only the 0.1% of the population that have a genetic setup to combat the virus would survive. If they're exposed they risk death, that is.

At any rate, the dangers of biological weapons are, due to the inability to control them once spread, far greater than a rogue state with a handful of nukes.

Personally, if the US is going dump money into a national missile defense, I'd rather see it dumped into something that could deter biological terrorism...

Best defense here is a good offense. Make it known that we will not tolerate such activity anywhere by turning to dust the first location with a hint of manufacturing bio weapons. One or two of these "strike first ask questions later" attacks would deter if not halt their production, at least postpone.
Vaccines need to be available for known viruses. Their scenerio in the article is right out of a Tom Clancy novel, as possible as it is scary..
I see the "ideal" terrorist attack combining three attacks together; an electronic attack on our computers and the networks which connect them, a bio attack as described here and conventional bombings of strategic locations (trade centers, gov buildings, etc). Anyone notice how the train derailment in Maryland just about killed internet access in the area as the tunnel also contained the fiber optics communication lines? How hard would it really be to stage similiar simutaneous disruptions nationwide? As the article states, not a mater of "if" but "when"...
But hey, the cold war is over, we have no enemies in this PC world ... yeah sure.
