Berlin: ILA Air Show - May 20th
« on: February 18, 2006, 08:22:03 PM »
We're going to see the ILA air show in Berlin (hopefully 262's) on May 20th (Saturday, if I'm reading my calendar properly) with Sasmox, Wasq, BlauK and miself. If anyone's near Berlin, we'll be there from thursday evening to sunday evening, we've already booked the flights and the hotel for thu-sun. We're also going to visit the Luftwaffen-museum (Gatow) and the Deutshes Teknische Museum. (And we'll be drinking beer during the trip... :))

edit: here's a link to the official Berlin ILA Air Show site: http://www.ila-berlin.com/ila2006/home/index_e.cfm

Me and the girlfriend are talking about going back to Berlin this summer (we were there in December and would like to see it in the sunshine!).

Will have to try and persuade her that Gatow would be interesting - or leave her in the KaDeWe for a day! :)
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

Yeah will do. If we weren't planning on moving house this year, we were going to get an inter-rail pass each and have a trip around Europe, including more of Germany. Maybe next year! :)

Are 262s even considered safe to fly in this day in age?

Oh, I should have added the "replica" in that. From the ILA2006  flight program:

Premieres by the Messerschmitt Stiftung:
- Me-262 Replica, first operative Jet-Fighter
- Modified Me-163 as a glider

And:
Displays from historical aircraft, warbirds and other vintage aircraft, including Bomber B-17 and fighter aircraft such as Mustang, Spitfire, Hurricane, Corsair, Yak-3 and Yak-9.

Munich is the main rail hub into other Euro countries so definitely a good stop off point.  Some very good rail bargains between July/August and December too.  SleazyJet do cheap flights here too.
