...to do something right.

Make election day a federal holiday.

It makes far too much sense.

Another day I get double time and a half, and no bills delivered in the mail?

Well hell yes.

another "Federal" holiday. It'd be up to the particular business if you got it off or not. It'd allow all the gov workers the chance to vote or at least take one excuse away. I'm for another holiday but don't think it'd make a hill of beans difference as the election goes.

Yep, they are talking about simplifying the ballot too.. "oh my too many choices, who do I vote for what, I'm so confused"..

If you are that stupid or lazy your vote should not be counted in the 1st place.

Technically, it won't be "another" federal holiday. The recommendation is to move Veterans Day in even-number years to Election Day.

It will still be up to the employers whether to give you that day off paid...if this one of many proposals goes thru, then your employer will be committed to allowing you to take the day off, but does not require them to pay you.

Both Repubs and Dems I've spoken to like this idea.

Another proposal was basically banishment of the press to report exit polls on election day until the election polls in all time zones are closed, HOWEVER, it would be on a voluntary basis...yeah, like anyone in the press would do this!

Sounds good to me as long as it's not only the Gov. employees that get the day off. That could cause the government to swell even more that it is now.

Maybe they could just make it on a freakin saturday?

I think more time/resources need to be spent on the legitimacy of the votes cast. Get rid of the dead ppl voting, voting for cigarettes, busing them in, showing how to vote - read "punch this line here", closing the voting booths at the pre-designated time, etc...
Again I say, if the populous is too stupid and or lazy, thier vote shouldn't count. Let's not dumb down the entire process to the lowest common denominator.
As for the media, we need to get rid of the talking/guessing heads and have them replaced with actual real-time charts/graphs that we, the educated/informed public, can decipher for ourselves. remove one of the shop at home channels and put up a character generated "rock the vote" channel to display the results as they are officially tallied.

Sounds great.  While they're at it, get rid of MLK day and add Columbus day.   :)

Here in the UK, we too have a problem with people not voting. I've been considering writing to the PM suggesting that elections be moved to Fridays and that the day be a national holiday.

Yup... make election day a holiday for all citizens NOT employed by the federal government. Those souls should be working the election process.

While were at it; put in a MANDITORY media shutdown. The FCC should disable all transmitters on all entertainment bands.. pull the fediddlein plug on broadcast/cable/satellite TV and radio.

How many hundreds of thousands did not vote because the press ALWAYS hypes it wrong? "Chit; I knew that moron was gonna win.. hell, he's up by a million votes; mine won't matter. Fek it... whots on the tube??...."
The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.
