Okinanawa: Rain of Steel, AAR Frames 1 & 2
« on: March 13, 2006, 07:18:28 AM »
This is what I posted in the squad forum... minus some discussion points...

=====Frame 1 AAR=====
well... here is my AAR...

Here we are taking off in our B5N Kate... in white cammo... I wish we could select skins in missions...

And here I am making my torp run... see Plink peeling off in the background with an F4F on his tail...

Second life for our B5N comrades... in N1K2-J George...

Here I am finishing off the CV!

I had to get a drink of water after sweating in a chase by an F6F... it was unintentional but the water just had to get into my throat...

=====Frame 2 AAR=====
We had a section change from reporting to the IJN to reporting to the IJA... but we decimated them completely.  Reviewing the film, we were lucky, at some points we were clearly out numbered...

Now for our photo album...

Here, we are taking off in our Ki-61-I-Tei.  Look at our Squad logo on the side... aint it nice?

Into the sun!  Following an F6F up!

Out of the sun!  I failed to knock the F6F, and coming out of it was dangerous as it can get!

Spraying the Corsair to death!  I crept up onto this unsuspecting F4U, peppering its main wings from left to right with 20mms!

BOOM!  Enough said!

Saving Filth... This F6F was on Filth's tail... however no more.  Too bad this was an assist!  I was even missing an aileron by this time.

Landing... I sprayed another F4U, it didn't die on the spot but I was credited with a kill in the logs.  It must have crashed on the way home.

Now for the stats...

Quote
Nightmares VMF-101 stats:
Pilots: 17 Kills: 15 Assists: 11
Obj Destroyed: 0 Deaths: 4 Landed: 12
Bailed: 0 Captured: 0 Crashed: 2
Ditched: 0 Disco'd: 0

Action started about 15mins into the frame and my flight was the first to take them on.  They consisted of multiple F6Fs and F4Us, which were very respectable foes.  The merge took place at 20k+, where one of us screamed "we don't have performance at this altitude!"  As a result, my flight which consisted of Four, Husker, Ozk, Tyr and myself, was wiped out, except for Husker and myself.  Both of us were wounded.  Husker had both ailerons shot out.  I myself had one missing.  Husker made it back all right, but the conditions of his plane grounded him as per orders from MGD...  :D   Well, he wanted to fly but...

Three of the deaths, out of the four, from our squad came from my flight.  Perhaps I was too eager to get into a fight and subsequently resulting in a high number of deaths from my flight.  I was not sure if they were loaded with eggs or there for fighter sweep.  Soon after we engaged, my thoughts went to trying to look for TBMs and SBDs.  But, I decided to stay in the fight, without issuing an order to break away.

The rest was a melee that followed for the next 10mins or so.  We did encounter at least one TBM of which I saw it die.  It was an exciting beginning, during which time, the USN was decimated.
