film viewer bugs
« on: March 25, 2006, 08:17:32 PM »
Currently, I'm unable to play the film I just made today in the Stalin's Fourth practice.

Anyone else having new film viewer problems?

For me, at some point as I move the slider to fast forward to a section I want to get to, the program crashes, giving me the chance to send a bug report to Microsoft.

I had same prob. Until i noticed i had film viewer running from a different AH installation (on second HDD) and it was missing the current terrain to play it back.

Check you have the correct terrain in your AHF (the one the film was recorded on).
21 is only half the truth.

I think I do have everything up to date.  I updated to the latest Karelia terrian, flew in the practice, and filmed it.  Then tried to play it back in my film viewer that day without having done any updates or terrain changes in between.

I can play maybe half an hour or an hour of it, which looks fine and looks like Karelia, but trying to use the slider to get beyond that causes the crash.

This isn't the first time I've had trouble with the film viewer -- it is pretty buggy.  I understand, though, that the film viewer is not and should not be at the top of the priority list for coding at HTC.

Hi,

same sort of problems but it seems to be associated with bombers for me.

This may be a clue or maybe not even close, but the dumps seem to occur at the time I switch views in bombers.  On occasion I can get past the spot by using the FFWD buttons (never the slider).  Mostly though I can't and it still just crashes.  I  have quite a few films at hand with this problem and it's always this combo it seems that causes the problem.

One more thing, changing views quickly whilst I have bombs in the air often gives me a huge freeze then disco about half a minute later.  Bomber bugs are so plentiful I just stopped reporting them yonks ago.  The film problem is causing wider angst so I just thought I might try and help by adding the above.
I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

Pyro, will do.

It is large, as it's a film of about 3 hours worth of scenario practice.  Fortunately, though, the problem is just that, after moving the slider to the 2.5 hour (or so) mark, it chugs away for a while, then crashes.  So, replicating the crash doesn't take much time or having to watch any of it.

Also, as it is large, I'll put it on my ftp site and send you guys access info to it.

Thanks!

I will send this message also to HTC's support e-mail address as well.

Below is a link to the film.  To exhibit the bug, load it, and use the slider to go to the 2:13 mark (2 hours, 13 minutes).  For me, it crashes before it gets there.

Many thanks.
