Well...........I got the pits painted and finished up yesterday afternoon. I hadn`t thrown in so long that the surrounding area was not safe for a while.
Finaly got dialed in and threw a couple of ringers in a row.
I had the pits nailed together, but needed and extra 6 , 6" nails to finish nailing them off. A new, small hardware store opened up a couple of miles from me here on the lake a few months ago, so I went to get the total of 6 nails there. It turned into a regular Laurel and Hardie act. First, the two guys running the place couldn`t figure out what size the nails were, then they didn`t know the price. I kept telling them " Look guys..I just want 6 of the damn nails. How much? It`s not a stock market deal."
After dragging out three pricing manuals and me getting a tape measure off the shelf and proving the size (60s), they found a price. $3.00 per pound................but they had no way of weighing them
I said.." Let me get this straight. You are selling nails by the pound, but you have no way of weighing them?" I was cracking up at this point.
One of them came up with a brain storm. He went to a shelf and got a box containing a poultry scale that they had for sale. They then had to unpack and assemble the scale. Finaly, with the 6 nails weighed we were in business..........Well...not quite. They then could not convert the weight into price. After much discussion and cyphering one of the "Jethros" came up with me a price for my extreme puchase. They trashed the scales and the calculations on paper and one said.."Aww hell...50 cents." About 30 minutes from the beginning of the transaction I left with my precious metal in hand.
All that`s left to do now is ice down the brew and get the smoker rolling.
