We need a hardened 360degree 5 incher at fields 2 would be nice and slow down vulching, heck put em on top of SBs at bases that have em would be a nice defense weapon.

How bout some Flak36's (88's)

and some 40mm Bofors guns

Both very common AA guns of WWII

Bases would need to be 4 sectors apart. I hate 5 inch btw.

individual 88's wouldnt work.  the timing mechanism would be far too complicated for the majority of the pointy click dweebs because they did not use prox fuses.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Technically you are correct; they used an altimeter to explode the ordnance at preset altitudes, & they used radar to give them this accurate altitude setting ( we don't have such radar in AH ) & they fired the 88's in batteries & later in the war they began to fire a rectangle "box" that was very deadly.

HiTech could implement control of batteries of 3-5 88mm guns for players & give them a reading that approximates altitude of target so they could preset the altitude & be more in keeping with how they were really used ( I think it would be complicated to code ). Or just give control of one gun per player & place 3-5  90mm guns with proximity fuzes on or around a field , it'd be a more simple design to implement I would think since they already have the 5inch/128mm naval guns with POZIT fuzes ( less complicated to code ). They would be relatively useless for low, fast flying aircraft because of the slow rate of rotation & elevation. They could then place a few quad .50 or quad 20mm emplacements for the low & fast attacks to supplement the 37mm's now on the field, & they could turn the 37mm's into 40mm Bofors ( I'm not a fan of the Bofors myself ) .

Yer.  I like the idea of 5 Inchers and 40's.  Could have 3 to 6 5" depending on the size of the base and put 40's and 1 5 inch in or close to town.   That would make guys fly higher. Push the air war back up in the air where it belongs.

Would it be hard to code ?  We have um on the cv but the cv moves.

I wouldn't see why it would be hard to "code"  it's already in the game. The 37mm field guns could easily be replaced by 40mm Bofors mounts OR make them a towable AA platform like they did in WWII Online.

5" guns and 88's could be done in a similar fashion I would think.  The need for "decent" defense is long over due IMO.

If we had 20mm twin & quad mounts this might slow up the vulch and attacks, anything less will just be an annoyance.

The Bofors gun was one of the most effective AA platforms of WWII

My 2 cents

They could, but as I mentioned in reply to Furball, for historical accuracy they would need to model the 90mm U.S. gun if they were to use the POZIT (proximity) fuze. He was correct in pointing out the 88mm German guns used altimeters instead of proximity fuzes. It would probably be easier to do too since as I & others mentioned; they already have the POZIT fuzes coded into the game with the 5"/128mm naval guns. I don't write code so I have no idead how hard it would be to accurately model the 88mm altimeter fuzes. Anyone write code around here that could chime in on the difficulties that might be involved?
