Concerns over Anthrax...

Erhm...

2 months ago the news was reporting on around the world baloon trips by some bored billionares.

A letter is sent to the Senate majority leader (among others) containing (hello?) ANTHRAX and you think this is unewsworthy? Just what about this do you think should not be reported on?

"Today there was yet another shark attack in the waters of Florida... <cough> Oh yah, by the way, there was also this other little incident where some Anthrax or something mighta been sent to Brokaw or someone that winded up infecting his assistant with the disease. Someone somewhere else mighta died from it, who knows... apparently this thing is starting to happen quite a bit... but anyways, in other news, still nobody knows where that missing intern is and Condit still refuses to admit he was shaggin' her."

It's really interesting to me...

A plane goes down. BIG news.

A plane goes down as a result of hijackers. BIG news.

FOUR planes go down as a result of hijackers. Ok, starting to get weird....

FOUR planes go down as a result of hijackers, wiping out the WTC and putting a big dent in the Pentagon. Ok... THIS is too much...

It is just far too unimaginable to grasp. Ya just can't digest something like that. It is totally beyond comprehension.

It's the kinda thing that throws people's compasses right out of whack. It's life altering. Some start cheering and pointing fingers, some start beating the toejam out of any "rag head" they see, others start deciding not to go outside.

And this is another example (to a lesser degree, but still). You got a guy a few odd heartbeats away from the Presidency getting sent Anthrax, you got businesses, agencies, and bodies of government getting shut down while a bunch of guys in space suits rush in. And for some reason, the media is like satan for mentioning this?

Compared to four planes going down as a result of hijackers and wiping out the WTC and putting a big dent in the Pentagon... it might not seem like a big deal. What would? But our toejam has been totally knocked off center, we're acting pretty irrationally sometimes and saying some pretty irrational things. It's totally understandable, however.. but just as long as you know.       :)

Biological attacks on US citizens is newsworthy.

oh crap I agree with Nash  :)

I think it's our mentality of instant satisfaction which allows us to be bored so quickly even when www3 maybe starting...

I think the news goes overboard but what do you expect for these 24/7 newschannels, they need to fill the time between commericials somehow. I'd rather hear about the bio attack we are under than see the slim Gary Con-dick smiling his grinch smile into the camera..

Did you read everyone of those lines?

I doubt it, when the media says the same thing over and over and over don't you get just - a - bit tired of it?

I would much rather have balanced journalism, as for it being newsworthy, sure it is - but not at the expense of other news.

I don't have 24/7 news channels so I get a full dose of the medias wringing of hands because they have been attacked.

Wahhhhh their out to get US!

If it hadn't been sent to Brokaw or ABC news it probably wouldn't recieve half the attention, it would already be a footnote on their broadcasts.

I worry more about being hit by a meteorite and dieing than I do about contracting anthrax, they play right into the terrorists hands with their endless harping and spreading of panic.

Irresponsible journalism at it's worst.

I've got a brother in the television news business. He refers to CNN as the Communist News Network, and says that is its common name in the business. When FOX came out with their own version of CNN, it was so different from CNN that it became known as the Right Wing News, even though they STILL have a slant to the left (it's not as bad as Turner's). Hmm, I've never asked him what they think of MSNBC...

Anthrax!!

Hey, It keeps the ratings up. Highter ratings = more money.

You have a better chance to win the lottery than die from Anthrax.

Put me in the "domestic terrorist" camp, too. I know some guys around where I live that think 9/11 wasn't a bad thing- and they aren't Arab. I don't think it is coincidental either. I do believe it is opportunistic. What a perfect stage to get whatever agenda you want aired!

I also believe it is not in bin Laden's best interests to start germ warfare, either. He is trying to cull Arab world favor at the moment, and starting global germ warfare is no way to do it. His success in getting Arab support is dependent on regaining "victimhood". You can't get that by indiscriminately killing people in a method that threatens to launch WWIII.

He made his intitial strike, now all he has to do is wait America out. He knows world support for sustained campaigns against Afghanistan won't last and that America has already declared it would pursue to the end. Now either America follows through with what they have publicly said (and perhaps ultimately do so alone) or they back off and lose face, making bin Laden look good.

Nope, smart thing for bin Laden is to sit back and take it for a while. Keep airing reports of all the civilians that are dying, show pictures of crying mothers and starving children and see how long the world stays on America's side... if germ warfare can be credibly attributed to bin Laden it will only harden world resolve to get him at all costs.

The reports over here said about letters with anthrax found in Argentina and, I believe, India. It makes no sense (from a terrorist POV) to send 1 letter at a time as they could have mailed hundreds to dozens of cities - you guys do get junk mail, don't you? Plus, anthrax is a "dead end" thing, it's not transmitted from person to person. No "outbreak" possible. Looks like a deranged individual to me.

FBI or the police would need to shoot the swine on sight though when they catch him - there'll be a queue of lawyers pleading his insanity or some other excuse...
