Man, I hate the Yankees.  Well, not all of 'em, just Steinbrenner...

Hey!  How about them Bears?

Told ya my Braves would lose.  If NY beats the M's I officially don't care about the World Series.   ;)  I do hope Arizona wins if they play the Spankeez.  Actually, I want Seattle to win it all, and then have every M's fan tell Pay-Rod to take his money and shove it up his arse!   :D

Do what I did, write the MLB commissioner and tell them you plan to boycott MLB until they implement a salary cap.(Of course, I will start this after tonight if we lose  :))  Notice how the NFL has parity today since they capped it.

Sick of the team with the most talent (ie. most money that lures most talent, see "Yankees") continuously winning because their owner can afford to fork more cash out.

Florida Marlins, 1997.  Bought a championship, but couldn't afford to keep the team together in 1998.  Team has been shoddy ever since.

Salary caps are good things for parity, though bad things for team identity.  It's hard to keep a team together with the player's greed, err, excuse me, the player's MARKET VALUE (*chanting* "go to hell, Boras, go to hell!").  Amazingly the Tampa Bay Bucs have kept their team together the past 4 or so years.  They haven't done much in the playoffs, but at least I know who's on the team.   ;)

Sounding a bit bitter there Rip...they do have counselors that can address this issue for you.  ;)

C'mon now...Steinbrenner has had money for years but it wasn't until he brought Torre on in '96, that he finally had someone who could maximize the talent in the correct places. Just money alone won't get you 4 out of the last 5. Jeter was a rookie, Posada was backing up Gerardi. They were saying Boggs was past his prime. O'Neill hadn't been fairing well. They have talent. And yes, they have the big salaries but that hasn't always been the case.

I give total credit to Torre and his staff. Remember...a fish rots from the head down!!

You just don't want to dish out anymore Vodka!  ;)

GO YANKEES!!!

Ok, it cut off the rest of my message...  but...  as you can see, only in 1998 did the Yankees not lead the league in average salary.  So they've been buying their team since 1996 for sure.  The source didn't have pre 1996 stats.
