Game start crash caused by missing files?
« on: May 22, 2006, 08:54:12 AM »
-Sorry this is so longwinded! :o

Firstly, I should mention, I updated AH from 2.06 Patch1 to 2.07 patch2 in this forum thread: http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=174479  not by using the online auto-update feature.
(Just in case they are different downloads)

Anywhoo... after the update, I started AH and this "Plane Cache" screen comes up:

and, everything is fine, until plane "BF109G-2" comes up. Then, the plane after that causes the "Program has encountered a problem & needs to close" etc. error notice to come up:
 .
If I restarted AH and just clicked on the "Cancel" button during the "plane cache" screen at game startup, AH finishes loading and runs fine.
So, I thought I'd try to recreate this error while playing AH too. I went to the Hangar (because the error seemed to be something to do with the ingame planes) and brought up the clipboard. Then, I clicked on each plane in the clipboard list until I got to the plane after the "BF109G-2"; see screenshot:

It's the "Bf109G-6", and, sure enough, when I clicked on that plane, the same "Program has encountered and error and needs to close" (seen during the "plane cache" at startup) message came up again and AH crashed. Error recreated.

I went to the "Aces High II/cache/stdshape" folder, to look for any files having to do with the "Bf109G-6" plane and (correct me if I'm wrong) both the "Bf109G-61_256.TCA" & "Bf109-61_512.TCA" files seem to be missing. And, shouldn't there also be a "Bf109G141_256.TCA" file in there too?!
See screenshot; there are only 3 "Bf109Gxxx" files there in the "cache/stdshape" folder (highlighted):

BTW: I run AH at 512 max texture size, which would explain why the missing "Bf109G141_256.TCA" file did not cause this error.

If I'm right about this error/missing files, could you post an update patch with them in Downloads/Game? So all others with the missing files could get them? I looking forward to jumpin' back into the AH fray... ahem, furball! :aok
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now, I am SO far behind, I will never die!

Just go to the web site and re-download the whole game and it should fix this.

BTW, this is not a bug and should have been posted int he Tech Support forum.
