for detail or performance? for performance yes it is the best but usually bigger number like 1280X760 or something like that is WAAAAY better.

The higher the resolution the smaller the individual pixels. This gives you a little better detail.

For many users 1024x760 is average and works fine while not limiting your frame rate.

Hope this helps.

I think most video cards work better being pushed to higher resolutions. I've used 1280 x 1024 for a few years now.

I, too max it out. I found that even with my old card the frames were about the same, and at 800x600 you run into many problems, especially with the text buffer, radio window, and (very much so) selecting weapons in the hangar.

The hangar thing might have been fixed with the redesign, not sure.

Don't go below 1024. Higher is better.

Cav, I ran game at default, 800 x 600, & whatever the highest resolution is.  I'd take a peek a frame rate during the different sessions.

I enjoyed highest resolution best until a half hearted ho catches control surfaces.  On my monitor's end, I had evaded the ho.  On their end, I obviously had not.  That's the down side for super resolution for me with my rig.

Guys who have Colossus: The Forbin Project as a cpu, don't have that problem.  I suppose.
