No, I'm not talking about this BBS...I'm not talking about the other WWII sim neither   ;).

I would like to know if any of you is playing this online RPG set in the future. I'm not a big fan of heroic fantasy (bar 'The Lord of the Rings'), so I'm not tempted by UO or EQ. But this one might interest me.
However, I've read in reviews from previous months that the game was far from stable, with bad connections and frame rates in the 1 digit category (funny how it all sounds familiar...)
I wanted to know if the general situation improved, or if it still gives a pre-beta feeling to the paying customers.

For those who want to have a look: www.anarchy-online.com

PS: If you think this BBS is full of nerds and other tards (to quote the FDBs   ;) ), you might want to check their BBS...direct line to planet Zorg   :D

I emailed someone that plays (or played) it.  I'll let you know what he says.

Haven't played AO for a few months.  I cancelled my account.  I thought
it was a GREAT game, but I was unable to find a group with similar
playstyles to me.  I wanted to take my time, progress slowly, and try
out unusual character combinations.  Since the game was new, everyone on
board was in too much of a hurry to level and get powerful.  It's a
beautiful game with an intelligent interface and an underlying sense of
humor.  I'd recommend it, as along as he understands it's a game largely
based on teamwork and not solo play.

that's what he had to say about the game.  I'll edit if I can get him to talk about stability.

Network stability was fine when I cancelled my account about 3 weeks ago. The major problems with disconnects and lag lock-ups in crowded areas were greatly improved and they pretty much sealed up all the video memory leaks.

As said above, it really is a gorgeous game and worth getting just to see what they've done with terrain in 3d. Gameplay got stale for me though since the main story line hasn't started and levelling just gets boring after a month.

It's a MMORG based on the Baldur's Gate series.  Will come with a single player game which follows on from BG2 and a campaign builder and world editor.  Plans are being made for persistant worlds like Everquest and UO but using official AD&D 3rd edition rules, not some tripe made up by the programmer when he was a spotty 14 year old.   ;)

That's where you're wrong.  EQ is tripe that was written by 30 year-old programmers.  :)

World of Warcraft looks good, and I might try Planetside, which is more of a giant First Person Shooter than an RPG.  I played EQ for 2 years, and I don't really want to play a similar game again.  I bought Dark Age of Camelot, and I recomend it.  The only thing about it is it isn't really all that new of an experience to me, and I dropped it almost as soon as I got it.

The only other Online Role Playing Game that looks good to me right now is City of Heroes, though I don't think they have a lot of press yet.

Hans, that looks cool!  Too bad they won't be allowing player villains in the first release...  woulda made it more interesting and exciting!   :)
