.204 Ruger?
« on: August 15, 2006, 01:54:23 PM »
Got a good line on a nice varmint rifle in .204 Ruger.  Anyone here have any experience with this round?  From the basic research  I did, people like it.

The rifle is the K77VT.

I have this scope to put on it  VX-III 6.5-20x50mm Long Range Target w/Varmint Hunter Reticle

Just looking for the outstanding opinions the O-Club has to offer!!

Terror,

The .204 is totally new to me. Can you supply a link to that?

I have a Ruger 77. It's a nice rifle, moderate price and the Ruger bluing at that time was second to none. I haven't looked at one lately to see if it's still the same. It's pretty much a standard  Mauser action with a slightly cut down extractor and spring assist in clearing the case from the action. The action is rather cumbersome to glass bed.

For a great shooter at a real bargain price, look at a Savage.

I've read good things about the .204 Ruger but I have no experience with it. I recently picked up a Savage 93R17FVSS .17 HMR for my wife. It's a fun, accurate rifle for a great price. I put a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 scope on it. Very pleased with the setup.

If you ever get a .204 rifle let us know how you like it.

Thanks for the info. I missed the link.

What are your plans for this little round? Are you a dedicated varmint hunter?

Dedicated?  No probably not, but definitely planning some Varmint Hunting trips.  And I love to go to the range to put holes in paper at 200+ yards.  I already have two rifles in .223 Rem and would like something different.  17HMR was my first thought, but I came across a good deal on the rifle linked above in .204 Ruger.
