The Deadline stands... for now....

The judge has decided to leave the deadline for hand counts in place, but leaves door open for the possibility of changing the decision later... sort of a nondecision, but it is the first court decision to go the Republican way...

Well, personally, I don't care if it goes the 'republican' way, I just want it to go the way of the law, the written law, not the law the Dems are trying to re-write as this plays out.

Our fore fathers had enough sense to see that this sort of thing might happen, and they also had vision on the courts to uphold the law, God forbid if they do not up hold the law in this matter, or it could be the beginning of the end for democracy.

I'll bet by 4:59pm tonite, Mr. Gore's lawyers will file enough appeals until they can find a sympathetic judge to overturn it.

Or, they'll find a sympathetic judge that will allow a temp extension of the deadline until the appeal of the deadline enforcement is settled.

I understand about appeals and how you can't take one judge's word for it.

Any bets on when the US Supreme Court will get involved?

The Dems stance is that the Florida statutory law on the deadline is discretionary. Go rob a bank and see how discretionary law is.

David Boies, the ambulance-chaser that tried the Government's case against Microsoft, is now a member of the Gore shyster team.

Surprised???  I'm not.

It's still funny to hear the Demos complain about how unfair the Rep are for filing 1 lawsuit in Florida while they have filed or funded more than 10.

Plus the Demos say "Let the county officials decide on manual recount" then when Broward decided not to continue the re-re-count the Demos threaten to sue them.

The honest truth is I wouldn't care if they did a hand recount for the whole state, so long as after the count the lawsuits ended, and no more recounts. The delay would be harmful to the country and the economy (which is arguably beginning to suffer) but be more healthy than the prolonged legal battle that seems to be brewing.

The problem with doing a manual re-count in the whole state is that no one can decide on what is a legal ballot.

We have seen in the few counties that are re-counting that they disagree on what is considered a legal vote.

Is the "chad" all there is it partially gone is there an indention in the "chad"?

I still think that the ballot system that was O.K.'d by both parties should be what is used to decide the vote.

I'm positive the system is flawed but trying to change the rules after the election to change the results is wrong.
