P-40 To be raised from lake in China.
« on: February 17, 2000, 08:07:00 PM »
One of the original P-40Bs that was flown by the flying tigers, and crashed mysteriously into lake Kumming will be raised sometime this summer.  From what I have heard it will be restored at Wright Pat, go on a world tour, including China. It will then reside in a museum.  I am hoping for Wright Pat, but will settle for the Smithsonian.

I got this from the Mydelphi Forum  http://www.mydelphi.com/annals  run by Dan Ford the guy who wrote "Flying Tigers" for the Smithsonian.  There recently was a documentary on "The History Channel" about the AVG (I missed it DAMMIT!!!) where they talked about the Recovery.  Erik Shilling said on the Annals Forum that Nat Geographic was raising the plane, and Wright Pat would restore it.  I E-Mailed Nat Geographic but haven't heard back.

Well. I've been following this on the Delphi boards and it is a bit disheartening to not get any positive feedback from National Geographic or anyone else who should know.
Hopefully more news will come soon as this is exciting. I'd love to be there to see the plane raised up and out.... Not a snowballs chanc of that happening.... $$$$

P.S Downtown have you heard back from Erik Schilling? I've emailed him but have not gotten a reply after a coupe of weeks now.
